Patek Philippe Nautilus Silver $52,000.00 BUt it has FREE Shipping

I don't wear sunglasses, even though I have 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses at home. I like to make eye contact.

Fair enough, I like keeping my vision and for some reason I tend to have random high speed objects head straight for my head, usually my eyes. Even had a rock (I assume) entered through the driver side window and hit me in my shades while I was driving on the freeway with enough force to knock my head back into the seat since I didn't expect that. Don't even ask me how that was even possible I still wonder that myself.

Don't get me wrong, I always have eye protection on.

What is the most expensive watch you have heard of ? I have seen the Patek Philippe that's supposed to be $5.6 million but I can't see anything beating that with out piles of dimonds and other nonsense, or perhap a rare vintage of some sort.
There are several million plus dollar watches without diamond bling.

Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar / A. Lange & Söhne.....no diamonds.....$378,000.00...it is a platinum case, but the strap is leather.

I'll stick with my Rolex.

I prefer my SeaDweller, not the new one, because the new one is so damned far off the wrist....we had a rep come in from UnderArmor a few weeks ago and it looked like a hubcap strapped to his wrist.

I also like G Shock, Seiko, Gruen Curvex and vintage Mickey Mouse watches.....but I have a few friends that own watches like the Lange & Sohne, and they don't blink an eye at spending $500,000.00 on a wristwatch. I am not them...but I can tell you that I have a bunch of friends on the other side of the tracks that will look at me spending 2k on a custom knife or 5k on a wristwatch and when I tell them the cost, they blink their eyes at me like I just said the words in Pashto.

We got all kinds on the planet, amigo, everyone has their toys and prices willing to be paid for them.

I think my next watch will the Marathon automatic chronograph with the screw down pushers and 1000ft rating.

It's a cool, big-ass watch....some nice features....not remotely in the realm of a "good" Swiss watch like we are talking about, but if that is what trips your trigger....get it!

I'm looking at the Citizen Panerai knockoff, and a cool Khaki field watch currently.....I like awesome toys that don't cost a lot sometimes!

Nothing wrong with a Valjou 7750 ;)

Most expensive watches I've seen were in a window display in London 15 years ago. By 'window' I mean a 3-4" thick pane of glass. They were marked between $100,000 and $350,000

Yes, newborn unicorn leather.

That was frikkin' hysterical!

The reason the complicated Swiss watches are so damned spendy is that they are virtually handbuilt.....and they work, exceedingly well.

That said.....the G-Shock on my wrist right now links up with the Atomic Clock every night for correction....meaning....for all intents and purposes...it is SIGNIFICANTLY more accurate at time keeping than the Lange & Sohne....but that watch is magnificent in so many other ways....if you haven't looked at it, it is truly spectacular:

Apparently, while Americans use stuff like nice cars as a status symbol, watches are the equivalent of sorts in some Asian countries.

However, cufflinks and wristpieces are not only the two pieces of jewellery men can wear but also very eloquent markers of class and taste. A Grand Seiko, for example, says a lot about a person.

IMO status symbols are a sign of an insecure person. Both the person who owns it and the people who acknowledge it.

I get a laugh out of people that do. As for me, I got hooked on Rolex (with no idea of the implications) as a youngin watching Sean Connery as James Bond.

Funny how you mention the atomic G-Shocks, as I am impressed by G-Shocks from the way they are built after reading a breakdown on why an engineering student was impressed by them from an engineering and design standpoint. They put in so much technology in such a small package and have it built to take a lot of abuse it's really quite impressive once you look at it at that standpoint. So as strange as it is I am impressed by these watches from that standpoint as much as some of these extremely precise handmade pieces of art they call a watch. 2 completely different ways to get the job done and both are have earned my respect on how well it was executed.

It's an apples and oranges type of thing, I am not comparing the two as I think the similarities start and end with both being a watch. But both the rugged G-Shocks and the precise handmade watches impress me in two entirely different ways.

As for watches being a status symbol in the US. Rolex is a status symbol to most, beyond that most people probably wouldn't know the difference between a nice Citizen or Seiko and a $20 Timex. I've had a few guys compliment me on my Citizen BM8180-03E as they loved the size of the watch along with how rugged and "military" it looked without being tacti-cool. Yet I've had several times that many compliments on my cheap $20 mickey mouse watch from girls who thought it looked cool, yes the Mickey Mouse watch was a bit more of a "chick magnet" lol.

It is not insecure to acknowledge someone's taste and refinement....in wine, watches or knives for that matter. I wear Carhartt canvas logger pants 1/2 the time, and feel that they are the best in class at what they do. Sometimes someone will acknowledge them....it's appreciated....and not a big deal.

If you didn't know me, you'd think I was just some tweaked out piece of peckerwood biker trash and odds are that Rolex is fake. Fine with me.

Most people think mine is stolen, even the people that do know me. :p
