I have recently read an article stating that as of august 1st that marfione and microtech must cease sale on all sub frame locks with the hardened steel insert due to a patent from a different company. I do not know if this information is 100% correct or not so i was hoping someone could possibly enlighten me on the full situation please. Thanks brothers. :brofist:

KAI (the owners of Kershaw/ZT/Shun) hold the patent (I believe it's a patent and not a trademark) to the subframelock, which apparently they filed as far back as 2011. Recently, they asked Microtech (and presumably will soon ask Guardian Tactical) to cease using their patented lock system without permission, and Microtech actually obliged. No idea how this is behind handled on the Marfione Customs side of things.

Evidently they are complying with it because there weren't any subframelock knives at their BLADE show exhibit.

Ahhh i see... They're are several other companies out there that (from what i believe) seem to have sub frame locks aswell, so i wonder why they only target microtech/guardian/marfione

Interesting.

Usually, Microtech/Marfione is not bothered by such things *cough*0777*cough*:grumpy:

Maybe the other companies license the IP?

A lot of companies will do bolted on liner locks (like the MT Socom Elite, for example where a stainless steel locking arm will be screwed into G10 or Aluminum, but I don't think that falls under the subframelock patent. I can't really think of anyone besides Kershaw/ZT, Microtech, and Guardian Tactical that do a real "subframelock" where a portion of the frame is removed and the locking arm is bolted in its place.
