so here is yet another update on the bottle stove...
sometime in the latter part of 2015 there was a design update on the bottle stove by pathfinder & unfortunately it was made larger!
i found this out because i was buying one for a gift & upon inspection of the new stove found it was really loose on the pathfinder cup & olicamp ss cup... i have 2 of the originals & both fit so snug that they often come out of the h2o pouch with the cup, like a second skin! the new one didn't even stick, no friction whatsoever, the cups would come out clean without any resistance from the stove, & this 1/4 inch or so extra in diameter really made them difficult to get out of the h2o pouch... however, it does fit okayish in the new h2o bottle pouch from pathfinder which is unlined to accommodate a little extra width, & made taller to fit their 32oz. stainless bottle stacked with the big alcohol burner they sell... their pouch only comes in a khaki earth tone color...
well, anyways when i asked about it i got a bit of a runaround for a few weeks, then finally sonj canterbury herself took on the issue & after investigating the situation, she informed me there were no longer any of the original smaller ones in stock...
not sure if the size increase was to force customers to buy their h2o pouch, or if it was an oversight or something they thought was a good idea, but personally i only carry it because it nests perfectly with the stainless cups & 40oz. klean kanteens, & that setup fit perfectly in the condor or maxpedition h2o pouches, so if the new ones are bigger & don't work with those pouches then what's the use?
as for alternatives, i have found the the ring for the pathfinder pack stove fits nice in the pouch on top of bottle, & works great as a pot stand for the vargo triads which is what i carry in the h2o pouch anyways... the ring would also work alright with small wood or in the fire with coals...
so, i myself can no longer recommend the bottle stove unless you can find the original smaller size, amazing how much of this design's intended function & advantage goes out the window with 1/4 inch increase in diameter...
