One of my first deals on Bladeforums was a trade with Jim O'Young of Speedtech knife fame. When Jim sent his knife, it wasn't really the one I had wanted, so he said he would be happy to take it back. So I packed up the knife, threw in some money to cover the shipping he paid, and sent the knife on it's way. Not ever having done much buying/selling through the mail, I didn't think of insuring the package. About 4 days had gone by since the package was shipped... still not there. 7 days... still no package. Approximately 10 days after I shipped it 2-3 priority mail, Jim got his package. The box was delivered to him soaking wet, one corner crushed, and in a plastic baggy. Fortunately, no damage occured and the knife was in perfect shape. Throughout the whole deal, Jim was very kind and patient with me. He never once accused me of lying and not sending the package back. He could have easily came to this forum and trashed me. He has a great reputation with the members here, and I was a FNG. Folks would have sided with him, and rightfully so given his reputation. But Jim chose not to do so, and had a little faith in the new guy. I have always been thankful for that. Since then, I have not been nervous about any dealings with BFC members. Most of the guys here are a stand up bunch of people who believe in honosty and integrity. So just give the people a chance before you drag their name through the mud here. Most of the folks here will make good on any deal. And most of those folks will bend over backwards to make the deal even better.

If Jim came to the forum and trashed everybody whose shipment was delayed ten days he wouldn't have that great reputation here.

It used to be folks took months to cross the continent - patiently. Now, we get impatient (notice I said "we") if we have to wait for 2 red lights or an elevator that is going up before it comes down.

It isn't easy, but it is smart to grit your teeth and wait. It's usually just USPS, UPS, FEDEX who are helping us to learn patience. We all want our shiny knives fast, but patience is definitely a virtue.

Now, dang it, where's my knife!
