Has anyone tried using mustard? I read somewhere that it's good to force a patina.

Some honest old-age patina in this photo. The knives on the left are approx. 50 years old:

Some patina on this one, it was that way when I bought it:

I almost exclusively carry carbon or tool steel lately. Every one of them has earned some sort of patina(some just a slight hint all the way up to almost a solid black on my more frequently carried knives). I really hope to get ahold of a super blue spydie at some point.
I carried this one daily for quite a while.

Here's a JK and a GEC that sees pretty regular use. (It's hard to see in this pic. I usually delete my knife pictures after posting them.)

And this 77 barlow sees a ton of carry time.

Very slight patina on my CS Hold Out I. DLC coating is tough but definitely it does not protect against corrosion

Made a couple more dinners, including my mother-in-law's birthday meal. With oil on the blade the patina is not nearly as noticeable as it is in these pics. The blues and oranges only come out when the blade is clean and not oiled.

Not the greatest pic but it's a David Farmer in 3/32 1095 at about 4.5 inches with Osage orange scales. Chickens beware!!!

Not trying to be a smart arss or anything, but why do people deliberately patinate new blades? Personally, I like my blades to look as clean/new as possible(on users only). I use Never Dull or Simichrome to keep them polished. Just curious.

Some do it to protect the blade from rust, patinas prevent rust from forming as easily. Others do it because they like the look of it, like it's been a lifelong friend that's aged with them.
