I bought this knife with a Black coating. It has been stripped and sanded to a pretty good ghetto satin. Recently I was out in the yard for about 1 hour cutting back the Banana Trees. See the pretty cool natural patina that has developed. Do you guys let your knives patina? I will probably leave this as is for a while to see if I like it.

Lets see your PATINAS!!!

Before

After

SR101 takes a great patina!!

I currently dont have any uncoated Rats but I do love a good picture thread.

I let my uncoated knives develop a patina. I have some bananas on my property and they will give you a patina before you can put the knife back in the sheath.

KJD- sweet!!! Man that really does look good. Nice thing about a patina is it helps protect the steel from a lot of further corrosion.

Mustard and Vinegar both work very well. Here are some of my favorites from years gone by.

Vinegar followed by mustard

This one was done with several coats of Brownell's Oxpho-blue

Here's mine with some patina, It's a RMD custom shop full flat grind. It's got the original convex edge that I've stropped a few times.

It started spotting so I forced a patina. Would much rather have a patina than a coating.

I don't let my knives get it. I will say that whatever that banana juice does to it is extreme. Last time I cut one was with a Spyderco Military and I liked to never got it cleaned up.

That there patina is protection. Besides that, I don't want a mirror in the bush or field giving away my position. Just my observation. Dull is the way to go. :)

Boil white vinegar and bathe your uncoated blade in it and then buff with fine steelwool and repeat until its how you like it. I boiled the vinegar in a pot and then poured it into a 9x13 brownie pan with the knife in it. I dont think it is hot enough to mess up the heat treat but I didnt want to risk leaving the knife on the heat. I dont have any stripped rats, but i did it to a TOPS knife that I stripped and it looks awesome. Its the knife in my profile pic.

Rob, you have found the "PERFECT KNIFE!"

If you ever get drunk and stupid and think you need to sell her (or just hard up)...please look me up?
