Patina on my Ratmandu

That would be a 311, and it is from cutting cooked steak drowned in sweet baby rays barbeque sawse. After one meal actually.

It's a forced patina...

After getting a near mirror polish months ago I've let the bare steel take whatever patina it can before I clean and re froglube it.

My RMD ha seen mostly kitchen use with a little kindling splitting too.definitely my sharpest knife by far.

My Stripper Scrapivore however has the prettiest rainbow forming.

Hard to capture but I think me and the old iPhone did a good job.

Those are some interesting grind marks on the Ratmandu, can you take more photos? Awesome patina. Love the scrap, which reminds me I need to strip mine.

They've been discussed before. Almost like rodent bite marks, they are very deep gouges.
They were under the coating after I stripped it.

Most likely just grinder chatter.

.....

Most likely just grinder chatter.

Not grinder chatter. They're CNC milling marks, most likely from the different passes of the end mill down the blade.

The horizontal ones I understand.
Obviously CNC grooves.
It's the ones vertical to the blade that I'm talking about.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood you. Yeah, those are die grinder marks. I do not recall anyone at Busse commenting directly on those marks, but the going theory is that they're done to help the coating adhere to the blade.

No worries brother, I hated them at first when I was going for perfection.
Once I realized how much hand sanding that would be I left them be.

Helping the coating adhere makes sense, it was harder to remove from the flats then the milled bevels in my experience.

I'm sure I'll strip my BG ASH when I get it hopefully next week. That should be much nicer.
Still can't decide on whether or not to strip the Rucki.
I've already etched the logo....

I was always told those were rat teeth marks. The rats need something to chew on to keep their teeth sharp - :)

Oh she's gotten some love already,

Almost worn most of the gray off near the edge where it wedges in the wood.
