I have a case 3 blade stockman that belonged to my day. Beautiful natural patina. I have forced a patina on a couple of knives using vinegar.
This is my first post this time around. I was an active member for many years but lost all my login credentials. Anyway, I'm back at it. I own 25+ knives. 12 of them are Benchmade.

I did it on my kabar Becker bk-16. I stripped the coating off of the blade first, which was more difficult than forcing the patina.

I used apple cider vinegar and boiled it, applied with a cotton ball. Washed with cold water, let sit for a couple of minutes, then reapplied.

I did get a couple of smudge spots by applying with the cotton ball. In retrospect, I’d just put the hot cider in a skinny glass and suspend the blade in it in there for a minute, pull it out, and let it drip off (handle up, tip down) and repeat a couple of times, wash with cold water to finish.

I like the results. It cuts way better without that thick blade coating.
