Patina questions?

Hi guys,

I hope i am using the term "patina" correctly.

I was wondering what to apply to a stainless steel to antique it a bit.

I have read some other threads where mustard has been used, but i tried and didn't get any results. I think on a carbon steel it would work though. I have also tried to use some "ferro cloric???" acid, but didn't get the results i wanted.

Any ideas?

They call it stainless for a reason! I'm not aware of anything that will work very well, but maybe someone smarter will know what to do..

If you check the damasteel pages they give receipes for etching stainless damascus.Fairly strong acids but it will do something.
