Patina Your RAT?

Stupid question inbouned. There may already be a thread in here on the "how to" process, but do u just take your IZULA and drop it in a bath of viniger, or just cover it in mustard, or do u have to strip it first. and how does this give the knife better rust resistant properties than the given coat. One would think doing this would make it rust not stop rust? I am confused, any help.

First you have to strip your blade before putting it in vinigar of putting mustard on it

Bassicly, a patina is a sort of surface rust (good rust) witch prevents the brown rust (bad rust) to settle on the blade :D

I've used Coke to patina a blade (an Opinel, not a RAT). I actually left it there for a few days; it was practically black when I took it out, except for some carbon dioxide air bubbles, which left circular patterns on the blade.:D

Opinel The picture makes it look lighter than it really is.

I don't mind it, since it was supposed to be a beater anyway. I've since given it a more acute edge, which resulted in some of the patina being abraded.

Thanks for the help. I just got my Izula a few weeks ago, so I got a while until I will need a new finish, but do you have any suggestions for a good stripper
