Show off your patina skills. I'm curious as to what people have done design wise and colors. What did you use on what kind of steel. Any tips or tricks to be shared?

I'm really contemplating doing up my Becker D'Eskabar Bk24.

Please post pics along with descriptions.

Even if you own a knife but didn't do the patina we'd still love to see it.

I restore old Coleman lanterns and I use this stuff called "the must for rust" to clean out the rust in the founts. Well, I had a knife that had some rust on it and I put some of the rust remover on the blade and it instantly turned the blade black...........didn't think about the acid in the rust remover. Anyway, "the must for rust" is around $4 at Wally world.

Nice. Use that in combo with something that turns the metal blue...a black and blue blade would be bitchin.

I did this one with a mixture of brown mustard and Frank's red hot.

What you guys are doing is a crude form of decorative etching. It's not really a "patina"-as that type finish is consistent.

I don't have time anymore, but since most my work knives are carbon steel, i used to make designs.

Here is one with lemon juice mixed with sriracha (for grey color) and 2nd application with beef and tuna blood (for blue color).

It's a snake scale pattern.

And the result.

I only did one side, the other side I let it patina on its own.

2 more weeks down and many more dinners made. This is how it looks currently with oil on the blade:
