Patinas Paracord and Flashlight

Just some stuff I have been playing with lately. I moved to buffalo recently and into an apartment complex so I no longer can really use any of my tools so I have had considerably more free time (waiting for the semester to start) So I have been playing with a bit of paracord. I decided to wrap my flashlight and my bk14. Yeah Yeah I know I made a set of scales for the 14 but the finished ones got sent to Psyop and I never got round to putting the superglue finish on the set for me so they sit. Hopefully I will finish them soon.

I have also toyed around with the idea of starting another thread to keep track of the natural patina that will form on my 14 with use. Seeing as how my go to knife in the kitchen for food prep is my 14 it should get some patina forming fairly quickly and I think it would be cool to see it as it forms over time maybe Weekly, Bi weekly or monthly pictures? Not sure if that would interest anyone or just a waste of my time so give me some feedback.

In my down time I also decided to wrap my flashlight. I carry this in my pocket every day you never realize how much it comes in handy until you have one with you constantly. I have has this streamlight stylus pro for about a year now and this thing is a trooper. I have dropped numerous times. Gotten it pretty soaked, banged it on things while working out in the yard and it keeps on going. Also over the whole year I think I have replaced the batteries once maybe twice. I love this little light.

Lastly was this idea I had for my fire steal. My girlfriend was putting her hair up and one of her hair bands broke. She was about to throw it out but I asked her to see it. I had some of the little plastic folding tabs for cord from county comm. I combined the two and put it on my fire steal. Not sure if you guys use bungee cord type stuff or just regular paracord but I think the elastic of the hair tie really helps hold the fire steel in place and you can stretch it around your hand while making the fire so it doesn’t get dropped and lost (what happen to my last fire steel)

So this thread was mostly me rambling, let me know what you guys think about any of it. Hope you guys are having a good day! :)

I'd like to see your patina's progress. It sounds like an interesting experiment.

Btw, not being a guy who knows how to do a paracord wrap, I'd like to ask where you learned how to do that wrap, and if there is a tutorial.

Yeah no problem bro, I found them on youtube. I'll look for them videos and put them on here for you. The cord on the flashlight is gutted so it lays nice and flat. The knife could have come out better but my hands always start to cramp up fairly quickly so its not too even with the twists.

I also forgot to mention that I have some small rubber O rings on the flashlight for some added grip. I really like the traction it adds.

Wonderful job!, I shall do the same to my 14.

There are also ways to tie a 'tactical strap' to your flashlight if you wanted to, here is the link.

This website is where I learn new ties and skills so I can evolve my own craft. Hope this helps, happy wrapping!

Thanks man, I have come across that guys youtube videos while looking stuff up. They are amazing. He really makes some quality vidoes. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a knot or band of some sort.

Same here, I started out with barely being able to make a Solomon Bar, to being able to make anything I could ever want :D

BTW, how comfortable is the cord on your 14's handle??

It's really not bad but its a temporary thing. I have a set of handle scales made up that I just need to seal the wood on. I prefer solid scales much better. Especially ones that you can get wet and not worry about getting funky. Cord wraps look cool but my vote goes to scales. It seems like no matter how tight I try to wrap it it always slides a little when cutting something hard. But then again I might just not be getting it tight enough. It will work well until I get my scales finished.

Very understandable, I have been wondering if I should wait for the new scales coming out, having some made for me or possibly making the attempt to make my own since most (if not all) of my current income is being funneled to pay for my high school course I am in. :o

Oh, and I must apologize if I hijacked your thread!!

Nah don't worry about it man knife talk is never hijacking. Handle scales are really easy to make with some pretty simple tools. basically some sandpaper and files. Here is a little tutorial thread I made for them.

I hear ya on that. My paracord has kept me occupied for a while now. Next project: a wide Solomon Bar belt! (I running low on cordage :p)
