Patriots day - never forget

So, it is a commonly held belief that the wars in Iraq and afghan were considered the 'aftermath' of 9/11?!

Now you have me really intrigued!

I dont seem to have the same view as many in this country. I dont see the world as us against them. A small faction of psychotic terrorists did a terrible thing. I respect all people that serve and the lives lost. RIP. however this incident, which united this country in hatred to islam and the middle east also killed over 50,000 Afgan citizens and over 1,000,000 Iraqis (it is also proven that Iraq had nothing to do with Al Quaeda and the 9/11 attacks.). This is not ok! war is never ok!. death to any human is never ok. We must become people with worldly vision, not egocentric american vision. If you are a believer in God (which im not) then one has to believe that God created and loves every human ( middle eastern, chinese, African, christian, muslim, buddhist etc). And in no way does he want us to smite another culture. I will never forget 9/11 as i still remember Pearl Harbor, but in retrospect dropping a nuke on japanese civilians (wo were not part of the gov and were prob just living their lives) in retaliation was not ok either. 9/11 united us to hate them and IMO, that is a negative consequence. One faction, not a whole culture did this yet we waged war on this culture. I will always mourn the loss of human life. I support troops' return home, and do not support massive political wars that claim the lives of thousands to get revenge on one fanatic religious group. so 9/11 is a sad time for me. it just reminds me of the unnecessary death of too many. :(

Thanks TNT.

I do realise that many did join as a result of 9/11, but would love to hear some reasons why. Iraq and afghanistan didnt declare war and they were not responsible for what happened.

Either way, remembering 9/11 has nothing to do with events that followed. Its about those affected on that terrible day.

Not sure if you're being smug or not, or what your point is...but, regardless of your politcal opinions, the fact is 9/11 was an occurrence that changed the momentum of the military towards a global war on terrorism and massive troop deployments on that premise, which ultimately has resulted in countless lives being lost. Let's not change the intent of this thread for your amusement, the thread is about remembrance to those that suffered and lost there lives, and that we shall.

I made a simple observation about what was actually being remembered. It has generated decent respectful and topical conversation.

Forgive me if I am way off the mark, but this is the intention of a forum. You can discuss a point, disagree with someones opinion or share your own! But, telling people that a discussion forum is not the place to do so is ridiculous/laughable.

I have meant no disrespect. I hold the utmost respect and mourn for those involved. But, there is alot to learn from this disaster and I would like to leverage that here, from people like Cappy2cap.

I agree with you on most points, in fact I think you and cappy have made some very valid remarks. Although I don't believe you can completely seperate certain events... when I stood watching the towers fall...I grieved for not only those that were losing their lives at the time, but for those that would lose their lives because of it...knowing that it was only the beginning. I agree that discussion forums are certainly the place to share one's opinions, I'm just not sure a Busse Knife Forum is the place to debate or discuss politics.

Why are you all making this a military issue? Families and regular business people died, not the military.

I can't let this go. A friend of mine was burned quite badly and was not the only casualty at the Pentagon site. I think remembering and honoring all the victims is quite appropriate.

I think what Wilkes is pointing out (and correct me if im wrong) is that yes he is remembering the civilian/military lives lost in 9/11 and giving praise to the responders of 9/11 (firemen, police etc) but is saying its not a day of celebrating the military/wars fought afterwards, for a lot of us feel the wars following it are unjust and aimed at the wrong people and served a much higher political purpose than revenge on the very small group of attackers. I am incredibly grateful for our soldiers and the sacrifice they make to protect this country everyday. I often question though, the motives of our leaders that put those so willing to protect and sacrifice for this country in harms way. Thank you for serving!! My undying praise and gratitude, you have. You have served your country well. On the other hand, Cheney and Bush...

I think it very sad that several of my friends were targeted because of their religious beliefs after the attacks.

I hope we can also use this day as one to celebrate our similarities and not our differences!

Very good Rhino, I understand where you are coming from. Not that I agree with the events that have followed (or understand them fully!).

Tbd: try quote me saying I dont respect the lives lost. That has nothing to do with what we have been discussing mate.

Touche...You are right. I will leave it at that. Politics are best left out of knife forums.

I am sorry if your post was not what you meant, but I did not alter your post when quoting it in any way.

I read from the top of the thread down, hit your post, and responded. I am happy to hear that you apparently do not feel the way the post was written.

The doc was just pointing out that the Pentagon was also bombed on 9/11, hence many military people died and/or were injured on 9/11 as well...

Now, since this a Busse Knife Forum, LET's here it for DSF! I have two DSFs...love the blade soooo much, it'll do anything one could ever as of it...except sashimi maybe. DSF Rocks!

Ryan, you are correct on both counts. You need one of the Elmax blades for the sashimi!

mmmmm.....Sharp and thin....I really need to try the SYKCO thin elmax... I made a spyderco mule into a kitchen knife...removed the guard and made Koa contoured handles for it...works great, but I hear the SYKCO's have a higher Rc...which has me intrigued...plus the res c handles are good in slippery situations...like cutting up fish...which I do alot...Dang it, I just talked myself into buying yet another knife!
