So, the "What would the men of our families have carried?" thread got me thinking about a knife that I could carry and people in my family would know it as MY knife, one that would be handed down and cherished. And I don't believe I have one that fits the bill, though as a knife nut I realize that probably most of us have too many knives to ever have that "one". But it got me thinking more specifically about what traditional pattern I would prefer, as I don't have many.
I love my Swiss Army Knives, my Opinels, and my Case SBJ. But don't think any of them qualify. Needs a longer main blade, and as much as I love Wharncliffes, I'd want it as a secondary. I looked through a few threads, and browsed Case's current lineup and didn't find it.
So overall what I'm looking for:
3.5-4"
Main blade is a clip, (Doesn't HAVE to be, could be a pointy drop point, or something similar, but no spear points or anything. I like "stabby")
Secondary Wharncliffe, or barring that sheepsfoot. But I prefer the wharnie.
Good Carbon steel (1095, CV, even D2 possibly)
Natural handle material (I love a nice wood grain as much as nice jigged bone, and more natural colors too, no bright blue/green)
The slimmer the better, I love both thin blades, and thin handles. But I'm flexible here.
While searching I found the Case Wharncliffe Trapper which is actually pretty close, but I'm not convinced. If a nice Wharncliffe Muskrat existed that might do it, but I didn't find anything. And to be honest, I haven't ruled out a Stockman. They've never quite done it for me, but maybe I just haven't met "the one"
Anyone know of something in this criteria?
