Selling a Paul Chen/Hanwei Chinese straight sword (jian) in damascus. This has never been used to cut anything, only displayed, shown to people and admired as it is a beautiful sword. It has been well cared for, although there is still a bit of dust on the scabbard. The damascus has developed a beautiful patina.
This is a weapon designed for taichi and wushu involving live blades; piercing and stabbing, not slashing and chopping like a Chinese dao or a Japanese katana, so keep that in mind. That is how all jians (that I know of) are designed. If you use this to try and chop green bamboo or tatami omote clean in half, you will have a pile of expensive useless wood and metal. If you are into traditional Chinese martial arts and are qualified to handle a live blade, this would be perfect for you.
I'm gonna cut out the BS marketing and give you the specs.
Overall Length: 37 1/4"
Blade Length: 28 1/4"
Handle Length: 6 1/2"
Weight: 1 lbs 11 oz
Point of Balance: 5.16"
Width at Guard: 1.07"
Width at Tip: 0.69"
Thickness at Guard: 0.37"
Thickness at Tip: 0.17"
Asking $420 or best offer. I'm willing to entertain any reasonable offers but please don't lowball me or we will not be doing business again.
I have car repairs that are urgently needed and I woke up this morning to find out that my power was shut off over $160, after I just paid almost $300 a few days ago. F*** my life.
Please contact me for a shipping price, as this will have to go into a very long box and be very carefully packaged. Ask anybody I've done business with, especially international customers, if they believe I have ripped them off on shipping. I ship based on actual shipping costs and not based on how much extra money I want to steal from the buyer. If you want to find out about people who do that, check the Feedback subforum.
I will have to thoroughly clean and polish the blade, apply a protective oil or a light layer of grease, wrap the blade in several layers of saran wrap or something similar and carefully put it into the scabbard so that the protective chemicals don't stain the interior of the sheath. I will also have to thoroughly clean the scabbard and the fittings. Then I will have to buy a lot of packing material so that you, the potential buyer, doesn't open a box with a useless broken sword or a sword covered in rust.
Priority Mail packages over a certain length and width have to be billed by dimensional weight, so this will cost extra to ship, but I am willing to absorb some of the price of shipping. I can also ship Parcel Post insured with tracking if this sort of package dimension is permitted to ship Parcel Post.
This is by far the best shot of the different layers of steel:
