Ya'll, the generosity of people never ceases to amaze me. When you least expect it, there it is. It's very humbling.
Today I decided to check a few pawn shops on the way home from work to see if any of them had any slip joints for sale. I was looking for Case, Schrade USA, or some other nice traditional knives. At the last pawn shop, the one right near my house, I had the most pleasant surprise.
When I went in the owner greeted me and we struck up a conversation about how tough the economy here on the coast has gotten. And, how tough his business had gotten, with people defaulting on loans and such. We talked politics.....etc. After about 15mins or so he asked what I had come in looking for. I explained to him that I was looking for pocket knives, mainly Case, Schrade USA or something similar. He asked if I was collecting them. And, I said yes I do collect them, and I also use them.
Well, to my surprise, he said he had a Schrade somewhere behind the counter. We walked over and he found it. It was a Schrade USA 120T. The knife was in great shape. The blade had a nice patina, good walk and talk, and it hadn't been sharpened hardly at all with most of the factory edge still there. It was a real nice specimen. So, I asked him how much he wanted for it. He smiled and said "That's a gift son. You put it in your collection and make sure your sons enjoy it some day". Now, this older fella was not my dad. But, I sure wanted to hug him. I thanked him several times, and we talked about knives and collecting for the next 30mins. Then a customer came in and he excused himself.
I've never had that happen guy's. I have done business at this shop before. I bought a rifle from him for one of my sons a couple of years back. And, I'm sure the owner may have recognized me from being in there before. He sure made me feel like a kid again, like when my dad gave me my first knife. Even though I didn't know this person personally, I will cherish this knife and pass it on to one of my kids some day. I will be taking some pics tonight. I don't have the camera right now. But, I just had to tell you guy's about it.
