Ya'll, the generosity of people never ceases to amaze me. When you least expect it, there it is. It's very humbling.

Today I decided to check a few pawn shops on the way home from work to see if any of them had any slip joints for sale. I was looking for Case, Schrade USA, or some other nice traditional knives. At the last pawn shop, the one right near my house, I had the most pleasant surprise.

When I went in the owner greeted me and we struck up a conversation about how tough the economy here on the coast has gotten. And, how tough his business had gotten, with people defaulting on loans and such. We talked politics.....etc. After about 15mins or so he asked what I had come in looking for. I explained to him that I was looking for pocket knives, mainly Case, Schrade USA or something similar. He asked if I was collecting them. And, I said yes I do collect them, and I also use them.

Well, to my surprise, he said he had a Schrade somewhere behind the counter. We walked over and he found it. It was a Schrade USA 120T. The knife was in great shape. The blade had a nice patina, good walk and talk, and it hadn't been sharpened hardly at all with most of the factory edge still there. It was a real nice specimen. So, I asked him how much he wanted for it. He smiled and said "That's a gift son. You put it in your collection and make sure your sons enjoy it some day". Now, this older fella was not my dad. But, I sure wanted to hug him. I thanked him several times, and we talked about knives and collecting for the next 30mins. Then a customer came in and he excused himself.

I've never had that happen guy's. I have done business at this shop before. I bought a rifle from him for one of my sons a couple of years back. And, I'm sure the owner may have recognized me from being in there before. He sure made me feel like a kid again, like when my dad gave me my first knife. Even though I didn't know this person personally, I will cherish this knife and pass it on to one of my kids some day. I will be taking some pics tonight. I don't have the camera right now. But, I just had to tell you guy's about it.

Excellent story. There ARE still many good people out there.

How many times have you taken it out of your pocket today just to fondle it?
Great story. It's nice to hear that there are still good people out there.

Great story and a great Schrade pattern. As the world continues to get "harsher" a gesture like that has the ability to elevate feelings even more than ever before. A light always shines brightest in darkness.

I have 2 of those pattern. It is a great one to put in your coin pocket of your 501's. That Schrade carbon is awesome to cut with. I love hearing stories like this. You need to somehow keep that spirit alive, whether it is pay it forward at the drive thru at Starbucks, or something. I am not telling you what to do, but it really feels to give, as well as receive. Thanks for posting that great story!

Yep, there are still some very decent folks out there. I'll bet you will cherish that knife for many years...

The guy sounds like he would be a great member to have hanging out here.
Maybe he already does.... Anyone here work in a pawn shop ? :D

You better do what the man said! And, be sure to pass it forward.*

Several times.:D I had to put it up for a while this morning though. I went on a fishing trip in West Galveston Bay, which is salt water. And, being a carbon knife I didn't want to risk getting any salt water on it at all. I alway's take a stainless knife with me when I fish in salt water.

It does fit perfect in the watch pocket on my jeans. I really do like this knife.

He is a pretty good guy. When I bought my sons rifle he had a price tag of 285.00 on it. I explained that I all I had was 200.00 and asked if he had a rifle in that price range. He said "I sure do. Here it is." and he handed back the same rifle. So, I bought it for 200 dollars out the door. While I was doing the paperwork on it another older fella who was just sitting on a bar stool in the store, at the counter looking at watches, told the owner he should throw in a sling for the rifle as it didn't have one. So, the owner told me to go pick out one of the slings he had hanging on the wall, which I did. I pulled out the 12 bucks for the sling, and he told me no thanks. The slings included.

The rifle was a Savage Model 111 in 30-06 with a Simmons scope. He made my son one of the happiest kids around that Christmas. He would definitely be a great person to have on our forums here.
