Pawn Shop?

I actually have really good luck finding good deals at pawn shops. Guns, knives, tools, etc.
I have probably purchased at least a dozen in the past few years. Benchmade, Emerson, Microtech..

Pawn shops and flea markets used to be a good place to find knives but that was 10+ years ago or more. Like I irsh said, with Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, American Pickers, etc. the price of knives and other items just seem to have gotten ridiculous.

I do/did wonder if the covid situation (ie. people losing their jobs + loss of foot traffic for a good while) did anything to reset the pricing at all. I'm sure a lot of folks hit pawn shops to sell things to keep themselves afloat during the pandemic. An influx of inventory and lack of sales might have helped the pricing become more reasonable.

No pawn shops, but a couple of nearby antique store/flea market combo places have produced some nice old Ulster, Kutmaster, Schrade knives from the 60's and early 70's. I just check them out several times a year. Those manufacturers are not well-known anymore around here.

I found a g10 Spyderco Military in 440v at my local antique store on Saturday. It was $36 but I didn't buy it because it was in terrible shape....missing three screws on one side and no pocket clip. Furthermore the screw holes for the pocket clip looked stripped out and the blade was abused. Too bad.

No. It's been years since I've looked in one, but no. These days if I saw something of high quality and was a good deal I'd very strongly suspect it of being a fake.

The last time I found some good Case knives was before the pandemic, have not gone in a while, but most want too much for knives that have been well used and in bad shape. Antique stores have a few.

Pawn Shops used to be a good place to hunt for deals prior to the internet. Now if they have something they can look it up and get an idea of what to (over)charge or (under)bid for it.

Most knives I see at pawn stores are stuff you'd see at a local Wal Mart - Buck, Kershaw, Gerber, Victorinox SAKs, etc. Unless someone is clueless, or desperate for cash, about a knife they are selling they will not get a good price on higher end production or custom knives they are looking to pawn.
