Pawn shops - ever get any luck?

The Blessing & the Curse of the interwebs..Everyone is an "expert" & can be a "dealer"..You just have to keep hunting..Bargains will find you...That said, I still stop in to pawn/antique/second hand stores if I have some time to kill...I'm lucky in that I know a few treasure hunters, serious bargain shoppers ..They usually give me first crack at their finds of cool guy stuff..I've fielded calls from people all over..If it is small money... I buy even junk from them to keep people in the hunt for me..If you can swing a weekend part time job doing entire estates..Be the guy that runs the sale.. gets you first crack at the better items..mike in ct

I looked yesterday out of curiosity. I found a pristine Cold Steel Mini Tac necker for fifteen bucks. I considered going back and offering ten. I wouldn't go any more if I made an offer. I'm not really interested in the thing.

I got lucky with my first 'real' knife; bought a non-flat ground Spyderco Delica 4 for $20.00 in a pawnshop. I have never gotten a better deal since.

Never found a good knife or a good deal on a knife at the local shops. Found a few pawn shop good deals on guns in years past but nothing recently. Used to find decent deals on good knives at a local Army/Navy Surplus type store but it went out of business nearly 20 years ago.

I can usually find a new knife or a new gun online with prices that beat local used prices. I fear the days of really good pawn shop and antique shop "finds" have passed.

Theres a local pawn shop around my neighborhood that has nothing good, you would think its an electronics store when you walk in, I bet the best blade they ever had in there was a sog super bowie that was stolen from me and pawned there by a "friend" of mine, then they sold it to someone else when they were supposed to hold it because it was stolen but thats a whole other story. Theres another pawn shop not too far that has some schrades, bucks and other stuff from time to time, but theres another pawn shop in sand springs that is really cool, quite a few spydercos, case, buck, leatherman and whatnot, they have nice guns too and a TON of tools. The only scores I have got were at antique shops though, a cold steel recon tanto in carbon v for $45 in pretty good shape, a schrade 8OT for $17 with a little bit of the clip blade tip broken but otherwise good, and a schrade advertising knife in 1095 and aluminum for $6. I really dont get that lucky, but that cold steel was a good find. Garage sales always suck, I have never seen anything good.
