Did pp just raise their fees?

I just sold a knife and charged the buyer 3.5% and still ended up short on the agreed upon net purchase price and according to my calculations i was charged over 4%.

Has anyone else come across this?

For international payments, the fees are 3.9% + $0.30 and will decrease depending on your monthly turnover (but for most individuals, I'd say it will be around that mark).

This is just not true. Where did you come up with this figure?

PAYPAL FEES.

Might be his own fee schedule. As far as I am aware, it appears to be the same as it ever was. I'm always skiddish of people charging fees above the limit. If I see it, I'll call people out on it too.

I take care of all transaction for a knife maker who sales knives over seas all the time.
And Paypal always hits him more on those transactions......
Never looked at how much? But it is always a bit more then the USA payments.....

Not trying to start an argument, but the seller should ALWAYS pay the fees for selling their items and never ask to send as a gift. This takes all actions away from the buyer if something happens to the transaction.

You are using PayPal services to sell your goods, you should pay the convenience charge for it. It seems the norm is different on every forum, too bad a lot of sellers err on the side of the buyers paying the fee....

IMHO, of course.

Rant over - :D

A poll was started sometime ago to see if we should ban the listing of asking for gift option, did anything ever come of it? I just saw a post earlier today in gadgets by a member that said he only accepted gift option...

Greg, Yes it is true, I received an international payment last night for $104.00 & the fee's were $4.36 so I netted $99.64 he sent me $4.00 extra to cover fee's and it wasn't quite enough, I was suppose to get a solid $100.00

Here again is the info from the Link I posted. International sales are a different animal....

Sales within the US: 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.

International Sales: 3.9% transaction fee plus a fixed fee based on currency received.

Seller pays the fees, period, that's what you agreed to when you signed up for Paypal, quit passing the cost of doing business onto the buyer.

Hate to break it to you, but fees of $4.36 on a $104 payment are exactly 3.9% + .30
try to follow.
$104 x .039 = $4.06
$4.06 + .30 = $4.36

You can't just add 4% of $100 ($4) to $100 for a total of $104, since the fees will be charged on the $104, not $100.

Next time divide $100 by .96, then add the .30. Not perfect, but you would have made a dime instead of losing .36

Is there an end date for this?

Practically speaking, it has ended, Spark posted in post # 103:

Look, there's no way for us to actively police if people are using the gift method or not. We can put it in the rules as a buyer protection method, but if someone's stupid enough to do so anyhow, that's on them.

The thread continues for members to express their opinions. I note that the votes indicate most responses are against it.

Yes, continue to allow it. 50 votes ... 21.74%
No, there should be a rule against it. 180 votes ... 78.26%
