I did a search but didn't find anything useful. Have any of you had negative experiences accepting payments with Paypal?

Most knives I sell using paypal. Never had a problem.

I have been using PayPal Many years and never had a problem ... for remote sales when I deliver a knife or at the Farmers Market I use “Square card” and i believe their rate is a tad lower. 2.75% for Any Credit card.. PM me.

There is an ongoing Paypal thread in the Exchange - The Good, Bad and the Ugly section. Most(if not, all) of the bad experiences could have been avoided.

- Always use the "goods and services" option.
- Never pass on the fees to the buyer.
- Always ship with a signature required.

There is a outlined policy to be eligible for PP's Seller Protection. It is important to read that.

I think Paypal is very convenient. I have had a few issues but nothing serious. Every time I've needed assistance, it was a pleasant experience.

Just know that, if you do over $20,000 in sales, they’ll send you a 1099 and report it to the IRS. That, combined with the new bullshit tax law requiring state taxes to be paid for online sales, it’s becoming a real chore to sell things on the “up and up” online.

I usually use PayPal but For high dollar payments I require a usps money order or a Walmart to Walmart money transfer. Once I cash either the customer has no recourse to file for fraud and scam me. That being said, 99.9% of my customers are legit and upstanding people would never try to scam anyone, but it's the .01% I don't want to be taken by so business policies have changed to reflect.

Like Laurence we have used Paypal for years. We also use The Square for shows. Both have worked very well for us. We have a regular merchant account for processing CCs and find we're using PP for that much of the time too. PP is the only way we'll process international orders anymore. Processing a regular cc from overseas is increasing difficult.

I've not had any issues thus far.
If you sell a Damascus knife make sure they don't put the word Damascus in the memo line. It gets flagged and delays payment.

Yeah I bought a little piece of Damascus from maker material supply, put Damascus in the comments and he didn’t get the money for a few weeks. I tried to pay again and it froze again.

Makes sense... it is an income.

In Canada, the appropriate tax rate for the Province I am selling to, apply. Example... if you live in SC and sell to TX, you have to charge your customer TX sales tax. That just makes sense, doesn't it? Otherwise, you are bypassing taxes all together... which would be unfair top local businesses who are required to apply state taxes on sales.
It's no different than mail-order, right? Am I missing something?

ah... yeah... the front-end of paying taxes will always suck.

Many Canadians, have a love-hate relationship with taxes.

I have a hate-hate-hate relationship with them. I hate paying them. I hate where they go. I hate how complex they've become (another tax in it's own right).
