I'm just wondering what you all think about this. I know that someone could screw you out of the money but they could dispute charges on a credit card or put a stop payment on a MO just as easy and for the most part all banks are fairly unresponsive.

How many of you have been screwed by paypal? (No not your friend's brother's cousin, YOU!)

And How many just refuse to use it?

And How many use it all the time with out a hitch?

I've used it about 4 times and all is well so far.

Thanks for the input

I've also never had a problem with them and I understand that PalPal works fine for the most part. Unfortunately when you do have a problem it seems they offer little or no help.

Once I got a email from paypal saying not to transfer my funds to my bank account as I may have received fraudulent funds.

I thought the hell with that and transfered the fund right away.

Then I closed my paypal account!

That was the first, last and only thing I ever heard from them about it.

The next time I wanted to use paypal a couple weeks later I opened a new account.

I had that account for a long time without any problems.

I wanted to change the name on the account as when I set it up I used my website name on the account and I no longer had the website.

I could not seem to change the name of the account.

So I closed that account and the next day opened a differant paypal account using my first and last name for the account name.

I think once you get the money transfered to your bank account there is not much they can do.

From what my bank told me if they were to try and take the money out of my bank account I could dispute charges myself and have the charges reversed.

A Google search will give you more answers to that question than you'll ever have time to read ... also information about the class action lawsuit, etc.

I'm looking into this very question myself right now, as I too am concerned about the legitimate practices of paypal, and what their track record is. I've heard a great many stories, and read a ton of horror-stories regarding paypal, but my own actual experiences have been ok to date. I haven't been screwed out of anything...yet. Granted, most of my transactions are pretty small in value (under $1000), so I'm probably flying under the radar.

I recently verified my account, which requires attachment to a bank account. At the time, it seemed like a good idea, and again, nothing bad has happened yet, but I'm still pretty leary of the whole idea. I'm a huge proponent of online commerce, and believe in the security to a very large degree, but when someone actually starts a website about how bad a service is, it really makes you wonder.

My experiences with paypal are so far, so good, but, I'll keep a close eye on things...

I'm with you Andrew no problem so far and all small transactions but with web sites like Paypalsucks around kind of make you want to... well umm start a thread or something :D ;)

I used it once as a seller. I was never able to get my money. Trust me I did what they require. I still get spam from PayPal but they're wasting their time with me.

Used it for a couple of years now.Have two accounts. One for credit cards and one for bank funding. No problem other than the fees.

I just happened to notice that you're pretty close to me on the old map, and I just paid a visit to your site.

Expect some e-mail shortly. I'd love to possibly discuss a bowie.

:D

I've actually been looking for a couple of makers that would be close by. Fancy meeting you here...

I've used it for a couple of years. No problem so far except, as noted, the fees when selling. I've used it recently, more for buying than selling(all very small transactions).
In fact, I had one very positive experience with them.
I had one bad experience with a seller on Ebay, who, after a couple of weeks, neither replied to my emails, nor shipped the knife I had ordered from him. I made a formal complaint to Paypal, and, after their waiting period, got credit for the transaction, and my credit card charge was reversed.
This occurred before Ebay took them over, so I don't know what the situation is now.
