Has anyone ever been burned on a PayPal deal?
The reason I ask is because I ordered a knife from www.excaliburenterprises.com and payed through PayPal. I recieved a quick confirmation email from PayPal. This was on December 25th. As of today, December 29th I havent heard anything from excalibur. I was expecting a confirmation email from them as well. I since tried calling then and left a message which hasnt been returned and sent an email which also hasnt bee returned. Im thinking its probably just because of the holidays but Im also thinking I might have gotten burned.
Any experiences with either excalibur enterprises or getting burned by a vendor using PayPal?

I have tryed to pay by paypal to the US but they don't trust it on international deals. Maybe there is a lead there, I didn't go into it anymore than that.

Who do you mean by "they"? Who doesnt trust it on international deals? Im confused. Do you mean you tried to use it to pay and PayPal refused to recieve your payment cause you were in Australia?

If you select alternative payment methods and pay through PayPal but with a credit card, you can always refuse payment if the goods are not delivered. You bank will want you to fill out some paperwork, but no big deal.

Given the season, I would not be concerned over a four-day delay. Lots of small outfits are closed from 12/14 - 1/2 and reopen on Monday the 3d.

Thanks, Thats what I was figuring as far as the lack of answer. I didnt know I could refuse payment throught my CC company. Do you know if that still applies if I used a Visa Check Card since the funds come out of my checking account?

I would not panic yet..many folks take the week between xmas and new years off..I dont know this individual but you need to give it at least untill the Jan 2 or 3 ..

Inform the bank before the funds are withdrawn to save hassles. There is a time limit on refusals. Rules are set by federal banking regulations.

Thanks for all the replies. Im gonna sit tight until after the new year and see if I can get in touch with them then. Ive called and their answering machine seems to be full, which might mean they are out of town for the holiday. If I have indeed been scammed you can bet Ill be posting to let everyone know. Thanks again, Roodog.

Well, most reliable businesses put information on an answering machine and/or website if they plan on being out of town.I went to the website, and quite frankly it doesn't feel confortable to me.There isn't much info,I couldn't find anything on shipping, return policies, nothing about their business except ant address and phone #.If it were me,I would have never felt comfortable ordering from them.I wouldn't wait,I would contact the CC company.

When you pay for something with PayPal and your merchandise does not arrive, you can dispute the transaction directly through PayPal. I had to do this once; PayPal tried to contact the dealer who screwed me and, when they didn't get a response, they transferred the money I was owed right from his PayPal account to mine. All it took was a little time; it was remarkably easy to accomplish.

Thank again for the help. Funny you replied SharpPhil cause I was about to place an order from your site for a light just this minute.
Tombstone, thats the same thing that creeped me out and I only looked into it after placing the order (my bad). Im gonna give Excalibur Enterprises the benefit of the doubt until after the New Year weekend (they may just not be good with costomer service, doesnt neccessarily mean they are crooks). If I cant get a response by the end of the day on Monday Jan 3, Im gonna file a claim with Paypal.

I got -- and paid for -- two items off ePray on 12/23 only to be told that shipment would not be until 1/3/05.

Am I happy" No. I will, nevertheless, survive -- and have learn to avoid these vendors in the furure.

Worse things have happened and I too will avoid vendors I feel dont have good costomer service in the future. Mistakes happen, lack of communication is inexcusable. If the website had posted they were close until the 3rd or the answering machine said the same Id have no problem at all right now.

Sorry Roodog had sign off already. The company I was buying the product from in the US they just sent back an email asking me to use diferent payment methods even though they addertized Paypal. I guess they had problems from international details.

Turns out that it was a sort of scam. I contacted the company with which I placed the order by sending 2 emails and leaving two messages on their answering machine. I never recieved any calls in return or emails. I know I havent had any trouble with my email or voice mail as I have recieved many messages on both and both are supported by my company's IT dept, which does a great job of monitoring downtime and notifing users. I would have recieved an email from It letting me know if my email had been down, and for how long.
Since I hadnt heard from anyone at Excalibur Enterprises, I filed a claim with Paypal. No later than 5 minutes later I recieve an email from Paypal saying the dispute has been settled and my money will be redeposited into my account.
Excalibur claims they sent me an email saying they were out of stock on the Massad Ayood and it would take "some time" until they could replenish their stock from the manufacturer,ON A DISCONTINUED KNIFE  . Kind of coincidence that claims with Paypal must be filed within 30 days of the purchase. Something sounds fishy to me.
Photomurray, Im kinda curious as to why they dont trust Paypal for an overseas deal. Did they give you a reason?
Im happy with Paypal as they were quick to get me my money back.

I'm new to this forum, but am a long time & frequent Pay Pal user.

There are a lot of scams that are perpetrated by overseas users. Frequently they will buy an item then after it is recieved they will make a claim with PayPal that it wasn't. As you found, Pay Pal is very quick to take the money out of the sellers account and refund the buyer. If you are the burned seller, how do find some guy in another country to get your money back? Many sellers just stopped taking it from any international buyers.

Thanks FredlyFX.
Welcome to the forums. i always love it when someone's first post is helpful and informative. Thanks again.

To start welcome to the forums Fredly FX.
As I stated before I didn't go into to it. but it was something to do with comfriming your address with paypal. I think Fredly FX has learnt more about this than me. The company told me I could use bidpay which I looked on there site and it looked fine. The only thing which the company told me was that they like paypal and that they hope they change somethings so international buyers would be more welcome.
sorry I always a day late as our time difference means I in bed when your reading this. :)

Just so you know, you only get the money back from paypal if it is still in the seller's account. As the seller can request the money from paypal to be electronically shifted to his bank account with a three day delay, as a buyer you really only have three days to contact paypal and reliably get the money back. They will freeze the account until the dispute is resolved, but refuse to go into the seller's bank or credit card accounts to get the money back. Furthermore, they refuse to give you information about the seller. And, if the seller buys something the same day as you paid him, he can use the money in paypal to pay for it, shifting it the very same day you paid him, and you get nothing.
I know because all this happened to me on a computer deal gone sour off Ebay. The good news was I paid paypal with a visa card, and was able to charge it all back to paypal, who had to eat the bill.
