Of all the members here I would like to have some people come through with verifiable problems with Paypal.

If you post in here with a complaint and you have one or two posts to your credit I would count you highly suspect.

Don't you think this all sounds a little odd?

How do you know the guy running that forum isn't the law firm representing the class action suit?

Come on, I turn my nose every day to that kind of crap in the news. Make a claim and do nothing to support it, tell a lie long enough and it becomes truth.

Even the MSN article he links is just some guy complaining because he had a hard time getting through all of the security features in order to set up his account, well heaven forbid.

Sounds to me more like a bunch of whining f'ing liberals looking for a new cash cow to bleed dry.

Maybe Paypal should just roll over and pi** themselves like Smith & Wesson did? (Mind you, I do not have a single Smith in my arsenal)

Paypal makes a lot of money because they came up with a product that works and people want, then you get a bunch of whiny a-holes who are jealous and want to bring them down.

Now, I do not like a lot of their policies and I'm by no means a Paypal groupie, but I use their account when I need to.

I have also heard people say they are an anti-gun company, as soon as I see proof of that I will make a decision as to whether or not to support them but so far no one has.

Besides, if you stop supporting every company that is anti-gun, left wing liberal slime you may as well sell your tv and lock yourself in a room because most big companies are just that. Take a look at Disney, Turner, 20th Century Fox, Netscape, Oracle and yada yada yada.

For me I need actual facts not some ravenous sounding idiot who made a web page, anyone can do that.

You know, if Clinton and Reno were still in office I'm sure they'd be right on top of this whole "Paypal problem" we have, now that they found out Microsoft does not sell out so easily.

Go ahead, flame me, I'm going to bed.

Never used them, never will. I always felt uneasy about the information that they would have on my bank account.

Sort of like the clerk at the grocery store you just wrote a check to, handed your credit card to, or showed your driver's license to?

No offense there Keith, but how do you know that someone at your own bank wouldn't sell your personal info on the sly?

It's not like PayPal is the only company that has your personal information on file.

No flame, Chad, but I will share my experience. When they first came on the scene, I was a big supporter. I put PayPal links in my FS ads & actually walked a few people through the sign-on process. I wrote supportively of them when other forumites would ask about their service. In short, I thought the service was great. All of that ended when two transfers from PayPal to my bank went awry.

This goes back well over a year & I am relying on my memory so specific details may be somewhat off. Nevertheless, after several successful transfers, I initiated a transfer of several hundred dollars from PayPal to my checking account. When it didn't arrive in about 3 days, I questioned both PayPal & my bank about it. My bank immediately replied that they had no record of the transfer. While waiting for a reply from PayPal, I made another transfer that did take place in the promised 2-3 day time period. I also followed-up several times. It took PayPal approximately 3 weeks to finally get back to me with a canned response saying that the funds were transferred. Well, they were... approximately 2+ weeks after my first inquiry. The second incident was almost a mirror image of the first except, IIRC, it took only about a week for the funds to show up in checking.

Are my problems verifiable? Probably, but I'm not going to go back through my records in an attempt to do so. Could the problems have been with my bank & not PayPal? Sure. Although I never had any problems with wire transfers from other parties, they have screwed up otherwise both before & since the PayPal incidents. The big difference is that they are responsive. They may not always have the answer at their fingertips but they do communicate, a quality that was sadly lacking with PayPal.

I keep hearing about Paypal giving folks problems. I just haven't experienced it first hand. I guess I'll be the one to step out here and say that I haven't had any problems with PayPal. That doesn't mean that they don't exist, only that I have'nt experienced them.
PayPal has done alright by me every time.
To clarify though, I use PayPal about once every six to eight months. Not exactly a frequent user.
Just dropping a bit of balance into the thread.

The policy of PayPal that people view as "Anti-Gun" is the same policy in place with Ebay.

Firearms/Guns/Explosives

You may use PayPal for the purpose of making or receiving payments for legal firearms and explosives. However, Shopkeepers who sell firearms or explosives on their website will be disqualified from listing their website in PayPal Shops. Any item that is designed to propel a metal (or similar) projectile is covered by this policy. Exceptions to this rule include collectible, curio & relic, and antique firearms, as well as archery supplies.

Firearms-related items that are not permitted include silencers, converters (any item which can convert a firearm to have automatic capability), short barrels, and kits (any kit that can be used to create a firearm). High capacity magazines and ammunition with propellant cannot be listed. Blank ammunition is not allowed.

There is Federal and state laws requiring that replica, "look alike" and imitation firearms have clear markings permanently affixed to the weapon. This law applies even to novelty items, such as cigarette lighters that are designed to look like firearms. All look-alike items of this nature listed by a PayPal Shopkeeper must comply with the law.

If you use that argument to call PayPal anti-gun, then Ebay is anti-gun as well.

I quit using PayPal because of the fees.

I just don't feel like giving this information to PayPal. It is my own personal choice. I do not know if they are good to deal with or not, I have made the choice not to do so. If you have had good dealings with them and plan to continue, great. In my opinion those that do continue using PayPal after hearing that they have had problems have no right to bitch later if they do get screwed. Those that have been warned and continue to do something, do so at their own risk.

I've had over 100 transactions using PayPal. Never had a problem ! Experienced nothing but superior service.

I would still be using their service. . .but, have stopped due to. . .what I consider. . .their less than fair fees. :(

Makes me a cheap bastid. . .I guess ! :D

That's cool ~ I can be one of those very well ! :)

I'm not really a fan of PayPal but joined when I started here with the Forums as a convenience to people I may trade with. I haven't had a problem yet except for someone using a credit card against my wishes requiring me to upgrade my account to the fee account instead of the free account.

The thing that has bugged me, even more than the funds being at risk was the absence of Customer Service. They just do not want to be reached. When I think about the fact that they want to hold your pmoney yet do not want to be available for questions/problems, it bothers me.

I really don't keep any money int here to speak of and will probably just fade away from PayPal.

Hello All,

I read all the comments, the one sided website, the msnbc article (which really didn't say anything other then the guy had trouble creating an account). I have even had situations where people tried to send me payment via credit card on my personal account. And as was previously mentioned, Paypal tries to make me upgrade to a "Premium" account to accept it. I simply rejected the payment and explained to the knife buyer why I did.

As for having problems, well, I have been using Paypal now for going on two years. I guess I have had well over 100 smooth transactions with no problems to speak of. I upgraded my account once and then when I saw the fees, I downgraded it again. You can do it once.

I can say though, I am not singing the praises of Paypal. This has just been my factual experience. It does concern me to hear about the problems that people have had. I haven't tried to contact customer server in over a year because I haven't had to.

No major problems, smooth transactions, no need for CS, but I am listening. If someone can really turn me on to true horror stories (not the "I didn't ship to his approved address and lost my money stuff" -- that I wouldn't do), I would be more then interested in hearing about it.

Until I can see the facts in front of me, I don't consider it to be fair to hold a Paypal bashing session with inuendos and no hard core facts.

Just my .02 .. I'm listening as all Paypal users should be. Class action suit?? Anybody in this country can litigate anyone for any reason at all..

Come on, let's hear some facts..

:)

...because I'm a convenience junkie...

But, after some 50-odd successful transactions, I've opted to stop using them.

Why? 'Cuz eyes a cheap bastid', and I don't like paying their 3% fees.

Hmmm...well I have used Paypal for about 2 years without a problem. In fact, they backed me up once when one of my buyers never paid for an item I shipped them (I usually take people on their word and ship my stuff right away). However, I have been noticing a lot more dissatisfaction with them as of late...I'll be weary from now on, but I will continue to use it.

Had many successful transactions with Paypal (one several days ago).

HOWEVER, everytime a customer used AMEX at my restaurant it cost ME 3.5% plus transaction fees plus 4-6 days wait for the funds. If you've ever had a dispute with American Express (from the purveyor side) you know that they make Paypal look like kindly grandmothers!

From where I'm standing, looking at the big picture, Paypal doesn't look too bad...

I haven't had any problems with paypal, yet that is--but I am beginning to feel uneasy at the possibility of them 'cleaning' out my accounts, with no appeals process, on suspicions of wrong doing; and among other things like privacy issues and hackers trying to grab passwords. The only bad experience I can report was a delay in receiving funds to my bank account. It took a whole week long, wow!! How terrible, well not really as no one's perfect.

But I've been with them for over a year. Yeah, it's a little expensive but I chalk it up to the cost of doing business. Nothing is truly free in this world.

PayPal customer service flat sucks. I don't know about the other problems, but here's my experience....I signed up with them and used them once or twice, no problem. One day I want to buy a knife, I go to sign on and send the money, my password doesn't work. I go through the steps to get it fixed, I get the new password and it still doesn't work. I call them and explain the problem. They tell me my password is fine, but they will reset it agian. I get the new password and it still doesn't work. Another phone call and I am again told there is no problem with my account or password, I keep explaining I can't sign on. Now, here comes the good part, they suggest I cancel my account and sign up all over again. I said great, let's do it. They then tell me the only way to cancel my account is to sign on and cancel it that way! I ask for whoever is in charge and get the same story. When I ask how in the world can I cancel my account, if I can't sign on I am told that there isn't a problem with my password.

So, I agree PAYPALSUCKS!

I've been using PayPal for a couple years. Over 200 transactions. However, I use it as a convenience; but very wary and careful with them. I've had a few problems and their CS sucks donkey *****. They seem to revise their policies frequently.

Here's my 2 cents. I've used paypal for over 2 years; had over 50 smooth transactions, no problems. Very convienant. I don't leave cash in the account for more than a week or so, and the bank account number I used to authorize my account is for an old credit union account I have open that has less than $12 in it.
HOWEVER, as some others have stated above, I'm not using it anymore because of the fees. They flat out suck (at least to my cheap a$$). Especially when you're buying or selling knives in the +$300 range. But I have had no bad experiences in over 2 years of using them.
