I've got some of this stuff up for grabs in the "Supplies" subforum. Bought it in bulk and decided to pass along the savings. ;)

It's been discussed here quite a bit...should be able to find some good info with a simple forum search (if you have any questions about how it works
).

Daniel, does the regular PBC handle the same as "special" . Do you apply it at the same heat, and how does it work for a long soak, for instance stress relieving, annealing etc. Curious if it is a viable replacement for foil. Thanks and BTT ;)

Along those lines, can you plate quench with this stuff? Seems like it might not work too well. Do you go forced-air?

Thanks,
Dave

I bought some of regular Brownells stuff because with the stell i use, if it gets over 1600, it is messed up anyway. If you use it, make sure you don't haveany bubbles. You tend to get little pits under them and it is a bitch to get off the blade where it bubbled up. Otherwise, it seems to work great. Messy, though.

You can plate quench with it. Or so I've been told. And I have successfully plate-quenched with other compounds that were thicker...so I'm sure it will work. Ask me again in a week after I've had more time to play around with it. :D

You need to heat the blade to a higher temp for the Special stuff. Best if you can hold it at that temp for a few minutes - results in a more even coat.

Consistent application is very important. As stated above, be careful when you apply it and make sure you do two "lightly dusted coats" and that you can't see the blade through the compound.

As far as I can tell...longer soaking does not bother it.

Just get it all off after quench and before temper. Tempering does seem to make it harder to get off.

Been wanting to try this stuff for a while. Order placed -thanks for making this available.

I use it regular. If you get bubbles on the first coat, I found that you can get rid of most with a propane torch. Then put a second coat on. It works very well for me.

excellent tips!

I'm all out of regular but there's still 8 lbs. of Special left.
