Vern,

I assume you have tried rebooting, and that it is picts shown in links in all websites. My guess is something changed a security setting or something? New popup blocker?

Try digging around in Tools: Internet options: Advanced

If all else fails, try downloading the latest version of IE from Microsoft. I actually like it really well.

New version of IE which is Internet Explorer8? Can you tell me how to close a window on it? I have 14 windows open, when I try to close a window it thinks the connection was lost or something like that and trys to reopen it. Any ideas?? Thanks Rex

Easy fix, as stated above use Firefox. Problem solved. ;)

If you mean you can't see pictures that are hot linked here from a site like photobucket, but can see pictures that are posted to BF, then your problem is either your browser's security is not allowing it, or your ISP or network does not like the site it's being linked from, and is not allowing it. The first problem is easily solved by lowering IE's security settings, or installing a different browser, the latter problem you might not be able to fix.

The newest IE is much better than previous versions, it's pretty much a copy of Firefox, but Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome are much faster and more secure browsers.

This sounds like you have some malicious software that's loaded itself. You need to shut down your machine - just shut off the power if nothing else - and do not run IE when you restart. Get your machine checked for viruses and keyloggers right away. Disconnect from the internet until you have the problem resolved. I would also change all passwords when you do get back online.

sorry I missed RMcClellan's question. Dave is correct, you have malicious software that has hijacked IE and infected your computer. The browsers I mentioned before are much better at preventing this.

If it hasn't completely taken over your computer and you can still install software, then install these 2 programs and run a complete scan. Delete anything they find.

The free versions of both are all you need.

+1 for malwarebytes!!! Just fixed up my friends computer that was super crapped up.

You might need to use a different computer to download it though, and then transfer it with a CD or flash drive, depending on whether or not you have something that could block downloads (my friend did)

There is the perfect add on for Internet explorer. It is called Foxfire. It gets rid of all them nasty internet explorer problems.

Friends, we can take this all one step further and eliminate the danger almost altogether - don't use windose. There are alternate operating systems (Linux, Apple OS X) that are far safer, more stable and less expensive - and you're not supporting an unrepentant, convicted felon by using them. windose, by virtue of its design, will always be subject to takeover by outside forces. It is the only operating system with this inherent flaw, and puts your computer - not to mention all of your personal information - at risk, all the time. Generally people use windose because that's the path of least resistance. But your personal information and your computer are worth some resistance, aren't they?

Using an alternate browser is a decent remediation, but please consider taking the full measure. You'll be glad you did. This is just a friendly suggestion, not an attempt to stir anything up.

All the best,

Actually at the most recent convention, the Apple fared worse than Vista, it was compromised in less than 5 seconds. Linux is by far the most secure, but it isn't for everyone. It really isn't the notion that it's the path of least resistance either. Roughly 90% of the world use Windows, so it's only logical if you want to cause trouble for an OS, pick the one with the most users. All of the OS's have their pros and cons, pick the one that works for you. C.S. Friedman put it best when she said, "In a world where data is the coin of the realm, and transmissions are guarded by no better sentinels
than man-made codes and corruptible devices, there is no such thing as a secret"
