Ah, another Linux user! I found Ubuntu to be a bit too bloated for my tastes. Been running PCLOS MiniMe 2008 on all the home computers for a while now.
With the risk of hijacking this thread, I have to admit Ubuntu is a little bloated, but dammit it just _works_. I've run a ton of different distros over the past 15 years, and most have been esoteric and a PITA to maintain for desktop usage. I even tried Ubuntu when it first came out, and did not like it at all, but later versions have been very good I think.
Next time I experiment, I'll give PCLOS a try.
As an aside, try the server version of Ubuntu and add on the desktop features you want, works really well for very old laptop usage.
