PCB etchant damage carbide?

I posted this in tinkering but I'm hoping maybe one of you guys may know.

I've got some parts (ss) that I want to darken with etchant. The only problem is that there is a non-removable carbide glass breaker on the end of one of the pieces.

Do any of you know if the etchant will react with carbide? I'd feel awfully stupid if it destroyed the breaker!

Thanks guys.

You could mask it so the ferric chloride doesn't contact it. Depending how long you want to etch it, nail polish would work.

It will not destroy the carbide but it might destroy any solder used to attach it with. Best to mask the area with fingernail polish just to be safe.

If it's in an aluminum handle, you don't want to get ferric chloride anywhere near it!
