Peanut in a Hurricane!

its amazing what a little peanut can do huh? im glad you and your family made it out ok.

Absolutely, and that's the main reason why I am so happy at the way my peanut performed, as long as I'm wearing pants, I have a peanut (and a handkerchief/bandana and a flashlight)

Edit: that's weird, I edited this post and got a weird double post effect!

Great story. Great knife. I carry one frequently myself. Rarely do I really find a cutting task it can't handle.

Excellent report jamesbeat, good planning on your part, and you seem to be very thorough! The peanut is indeed a great knife, I'm preparing a month-long pocket carry report that I owe to these forumites, and many thanks to jackknife for introducing me to it as well! I am also glad that you have met Mr. Mossberg, he's an old acquaintance of mine as well. :D

James, glad you and your family are well, and thanks for sharing your experiences with us!

The peanut is a wonderful knife.

Well as the dust settles and things start to get back to normal, I've been hearing a lot of reports of trees coming down and causing property damage.
My friend had a tree in his yard which got felled by the wind (not uprooted but cracked in half no less!) which poleaxed his deck and would have done some serious damage to his house if it had been slightly nearer.

Most alarming though, was when I looked out of a side window at home, and discovered that a neighbor's tree had been blown over and destroyed a shed/garage type structure in his back yard.

That tree was only 20' or so away from a large tree in our back yard that is poised directly over the roof of our bedroom.
I'm pretty sure it was just pot luck that we didn't have our roof caved in.

My wife thought I was overdoing it a bit by insisting we go to the drugstore, but when she saw that felled tree, she realised tgat I'm not so paranoid after all.
I'd much prefer to look a little foolish than run the risk of the unthinkable happening to my family, but it turns out that I actually look rather heroic anyway :D

This whole thing has really tipped me over the edge. When I use my peanut now, it feels like a real piece of equipment.
I never considered it a 'toy' or a novelty before, but it's so true that all you really need for 99% of cutting tasks is an inch or two of razor sharp steel.
When I was using it before to open packages, cut food etc, I was always doing it partly for the knife nut pleasure of using it.
It's nice to know that when I had a million things to think about, and knife geekery was the last thing on my mind, that little blade really did turn out to be the most practical tool for the job.

I'm going to stop typing now, before I sound like I'm selling these things :D

I haven't been around here much. Been super busy. Glad you guys made out OK. I've been carrying my Peanut a lot lately. I like Carl's bandana idea...usually have one or two for the motorcycle, but I've also taken to shoving a rubber glove in there. Rubber keeps everything in place well (latex) and when you've got a little kid it can come in handy. Same with the little bottle of hand sanitizer. Carry one of those, too. :)

Glad you made out okay. We got lucky too had no damage beyond a bit of water in the basement and a slightly leaky picture window. We finally got our power back on Friday afternoon, but there are still some areas without power.

I am afraid that my "hurricane knife" was not a traditional; I went with my Victorinox Spirit instead, which came in handy for tinkering with a generator etc.
