Peanut oil and 1084?

While I wait for O1 and W2 steel to become available again, I thought I would try 1084 to keep myself occupied until then. I know the specs and that it is rather easy to heat treat, requiring a short soak time in the forge/kiln and a slow oil quench. My question is will a readily available oil, such as peanut or a vegetable based oil, be a sufficient quench medium for 1084? Anyone ever successfully done a heat treat on 1084 with these oils?

I used it for a long time. Smells better than motor oil for sure. Works really well with 1084.

Good to know, and thanks for replying. I was concerned that it might not be fast enough (like Parks 50) for 1084, since it's more or less a basic carbon steel.

works fine, get as big a tank and have as much oil volume as you can, this is very overlooked. I see a lot of guys quenching in way too little fluid.

I have done only a few oil quenches; how many quarts /gallons of vegetable oil per foot of heated steel is recommended? And a follow-up question: Is it possible for vegetable oils to "go bad" after 2 or 3 quenches?
