Peanut or Pen knife

would you please post a measurement?

Case Pen Knife
Closed length: 3 3/8"
Main Blade (bolster to tip): ?

Case Peanut
Closed Length: 2 7/8"
Main Blade (bolster to tip): 2"

The Pen is 1/2" longer in the handle. How much longer than the Peanut's main blade, is the Pen's main blade?

and btw, here are a couple other threads with info about pen knives

I just measured the main blade of my Pen. It was just shy of 2 1/2", approx 2 7/16".

I have a Yellow Delrin Peanut and a Yellow Delrin Pen. I'll try and post a picture of them side by side in the next couple of days.

My opinion means nothin', but I carry an assortment in cutlery in my pockets daily. Stockmans, sodbusters, barlows, etc. but the MIGHTY PEANUT is always, I repeat, ALWAYS in the watchpocket of my jeans. Always. Get yourself a Case bone peanut in the color of your choice. Steel choice really does'nt matter. I prefer CV. You won't be sorry. If it turns out you don't care for the design of the knife, your only out a few dollars , and you can pass it on to someone else.

Thanks! So the Pen knife is a full 1" longer than a peanut, open (1/2" more handle and also 1/2" more blade.)

fwiw My Charlow handle is the same length as a Pen knife, 3 3/8". The Charlow blade is 2 3/4", just 1/4" longer than a Pen knife... hmmm

given a choice between a Pen and a Charlow.. Charlow

I dont own a Pen knife, but here is a Charlow and a Peanut, so you can compare handle lengths. Pen handle is same length as Charlow, although pen is not as wide nor as heavy. My Charlow pictured weighs 57 grams. A pen knife weighs 45 grams, peanut weighs 34 grams.

So a Pen weighs 11 grams more, or 36% more than a Peanut. For comparison sake, 2 nickels (5 grams each) plus a Peanut, would weigh almost the same as a Pen Knife :-)

I can't find this 87 anywhere. Is there another name for it?
I'm partial to the peanut, I carry one everyday for about two years, not to add more to the pot but two others that I really like are the Case 87, it's the peanuts bigger brother, and one that doesn't get a lot of talk is the Eisenhower, which is a really nice small knife.

I have a couple advertising pen knives, though the MOT might be a souvenir knife. ... at least I think they're pen knives. I never carry them. Way too thin for my liking.
I've learned over many years, the smallest I'll carry and use is a 3.125 (3 ⅛) ~ 3.375 (3⅜) inch two blade Barlow. (I've never had a single blade barrow. Being a 2 spring, both blades on the same end, I don't understand why the secondary on a Barlow is always a pen blade. Why not a full length spear point or a sheepsfoot or lambsfoot secondary?)

And to that I will tell you i don't understand why the secondry on a trapper is always a full length spey blade.
Why not a pen blade or a short sheeps foot ?

Because that's not how it is.
If you want 2 full length blades get a trapper moose muskrat or folding hunter.
The Barlow is exactly as it should be.
