Peanut vs. Tiny Trapper

I was wondering if anyone could post side by side pictures of a peanut vs. a tiny trapper. I am considering a Case tiny trapper with the wharncliffe secondary blade instead of the spey blade, but I'm concerned it is too small.
Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated.

John

I have one of the wharncliffe versions, they're small but still useful knives and fit nicely in a jeans watch pocket.

I have both and the Tiny Trapper is definately tiny. It's a good knife if you like very small knives but if you are thinking that it might be too small then it probably is.

My thoughts are that the wharncliffe blade will be more useful for me than the smaller pen blade. I could use the clip blade for everyday tasks and the wharncliffe for whittling and the like. I have a peanut already, which is a great little knife, but I'm drawn to the prospect of the two similarly sized blades. I'm just not sure if slightly smaller size of the tiny trapper will make it too small for my hands(I'm 5'10", and I wear size large gloves).

Thanks for the replies so far.

My wharncliffe Tiny Trapper is a beautiful little knife and I'm glad I have it, but its springs are definitely softer relative to other smaller slipjoints I've opened. A good bath and some oil helped give it some snap, but the combination of the softer spring (and thus, easier accidental collapsibility) coupled with its smaller size make me nervous when attempting certain cuts. And as others have alluded to, and evidently unlike the Peanut, I find it tends to feel smaller than it is.

Like I said, I'm still glad I have mine, and if you think you'd enjoy having one, you probably will! The wharncliffe blade wields like a primary, not a replacement secondary pen. I just wanted to add the above, given your specific mention of whittling. Perhaps the springs are stiffer on others?

The springs on my Tiny Trapper are also pretty weak - definitely less snap than my Peanut.

I'm 5'10" and wear XL gloves and the TT definitely feels smaller than the Peanut. Having said that, a couple years ago I carried the TT every day and I adjusted to it and it felt fine. I think if it's the only small knife you carry you'll be fine with it; but if you're going back and forth between it and a Peanut, the TT will definitely suffer in the comparison.

Great comparison shots Keith. I have never held or used a Tiny Trapper, but I did just order a Mini-Copperhead. It will be interesting to see how it compares to my almost daily carry Peanut.

Thanks Doug. I have a (Wharncliffe) Mini-Copperhead and never really warmed up to it. Lots of other folk around here think it's just perfect, though. Let us know what ya think when you get it! ;)

John, I sent you an email.

I sent you a reply Rick. Thank you for the generous offer. People here continue to amaze me with their generosity.

@ pertinux: Great shots of your trapper. That blue really stands out. With respect to whittling, I'm hopeful that the springs are sufficient so that I don't have to worry about it closing on my hand. I guess time will tell.

@ coyote711(Keith): Thanks for the comparison pics. The tiny trapper definitely looks smaller than the peanut. My peanut is not unbearably small in my hand as it stands now. Took a little getting used to, and this will probably be the case with the TT.

I think the nut is as small as you want to go. I find the tiny trapper difficult to hold.

Thanks! To me, it's a perfect blue. Sadly, the other Case knives I've seen with this blue have unsightly graphics imposed on their scales. Sigh.

Looking just at pictures of my Tiny Trapper in isolation (no clear size reference), I pretend I already have the 2012 Trad. Forum knife, in a custom color. ;-)

To small imho but then again I think the peanut is to small also. I own the rattlesnake tiny trapper with 1 wharncliff blade. Its a display piece as its way to small for me.

If you think the tiny trapper may be too small - have you thought about the trapper jr or med trapper? I have a John Primble trapper jr that is 3 1/2" closed but it has the clip & spey blades. It's a newer knife that I believe is Chinese made but no indication (stamp, ink or sticker) on it anywhere. But that could have been easily removed, but still a decent pocket carry. You can find them on flea-bay. It's just a tad larger than the Peanut.

I was forced to order a Tiny Trapper after seeing these. I went ahead and ordered a SBJ to keep my SBG company while I was at it.

Doug I think the Mini Copperhead is a perfectly good user. Fits nice in the hand.

I agree. It has been in my pocket since it arrived in Wednesday's mail, and been used for various daily cutting tasks. Last night I also used it to do some food prep for dinner. It sliced through small produce quite easily.

I agree that blue smooth bone in pertinux's tiny trapper is quite attractive!

I really, REALLY like the scales on this. Smooth blue bone? Where can I find a Case with these scales?? I'm normally not big on the really colorful green/blue/red/etc scale dies. But this is breathtaking.

Thanks! This is Case's "Mediterranean Blue." I really (really) love the color as well, and wish I could find other patterns with the same scales. I'd really like a peanut in this, for example, but would also consider others for the scales alone. Unfortunately, Case does not seem to be able to leave well enough alone-- everything else I've found (online) in this color so far has billboard-sized logos or busy etching. To whit:

The Greek Key ones look grayer in the pictures than I believe they do in real life, going by some pictures I've seen posted here; I haven't seen a non-Case picture of the white-blasted logo "mediterranean blue," but trust it would be the "right" blue in person. Mine is brighter and richer than Case's pictures; here's the stock Case picture that was all I had to go by:
