Peanuts!!!

In my (perhaps faulty) quest to make myself a one knife man, I have narrowed down my pattern of choice, namely the Peanut (with much thanks to Jackknife Carl and his fantastic posts). But now I need to narrow down which Peanut. Thankfully, I only have two.

Ultimately, I must make my own decision, but I am curious. Of these two nuts, which would you carry (assuming you'd carry a peanut in the first place). Please do not allow cost or rarity to influence. Chestnut Bone CV or Stag Damascus? And why?

Please forgive my photographic skills, or lack thereof. I need a new camera...

Only one of these nuts is going to accompany me on my trip to Bradford, PA for my factory tour. I thank you for your input. I just love them both.

I prefer stag to bone, but I also think you should go with the CV blade. It will show more character reflecting your use over time than the damascus blade.

You know, you could make the CV blade an everyday blade and save the damascus one for more formal occasions. Just sayin'...

First, hold on a minute, before you go making a choice you may regret.

Peanuts are gregarious little creatures, who are happier when kept in packs, much like Welsh Corgi's. They can get very jealous of one another if you try to show any kind of favoritism toward one. It's best to have at least a few on hand to rotate in edc. I have 4 of them, and while ( just between you and me of course!) my damascus is my favorite, I figure how to rotate my other three into use to keep the peace in the sock drawer. And sharp as these little suckers are, you don't want them in a nippy mood!

Two may not be enough, depending on the personality of the couple you have. You need at least a third to round out things, and a forth would not be unwelcome to a peanut pack. The more, the merrier, sometimes. After a whille, they take on different personalities. My old yella CV likes the dirty work of fish bellies, and work in the garden. On the other hand, my chestnut CV hates the garden and landscape work, and shows it's resentment of being there by hiding among the pine bark mulch where it is perfectly camoflogged and hard to find it laid down for a brief moment. On the other hand, my damascus has shown a very strong lean toward black tie events at the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Museum, and helping out librarians in need.
:D

I'd go with the chestnut bone. Bone is my favorite scale material and chestnut is my color preferance. Both are very nice.

I like the idea of being a one-knife man.
I'm on of the lucky ones here in that I have my late grandad's knife.
It's only an SAK, but it's like having a little bit of him still with me.
I often wonder if our descendants will be so lucky. I have a very modest collection compared to some here, but I still have over twenty knives. That makes it practically impossible to decide which knife is 'dad's old knife'.
Having twenty 'dad's old knives' doesn't have the same sentimentality to it.
I bet a lot of our ancestors would be rather bemused by our collections, and wonder why on earth we would need more than one good knife.

I'm going to buck the trend here and say the stag damascus.
If you're only going to carry one knife, why not carry the more elaborate one?
you have nice stag scales to admire, beautiful damascus, and that awesome swedge.

On the other hand, do you absolutely have to only carry one knife?
How about the chestnut bone for weekdays and the damascus stag for weekend carry?
I'm sure being a two-knife man is ok too :D

I'm going to buck the trend here and say go with the Damascus. That's what I'm carrying right now. I love the way the steel sharpens up. It also has a different look to it. People always ask what kind of steel is that.
I do agree with Carl, one is not enough:D
So much for bucking the trend. James beat me by a key stroke.

I am torn, because I have the chestnut bone peanut, and the damascus is so damn cool looking. They're small enough, carry both :D.

That CAse Damascus peanut is gorgeous, if your only going to have one, it might as well be that gorgeous Damascus and Stag

Thanks for the input! This is hopeless. I put one in my pocket, and then I want the other...

I may have to settle on being a one pattern guy. I just found out I have a SS Peanut (Case Collector's Club New Member Knife) with navy bone scales on the way...

Ya got more than one pocket, don't ya? :D

I could never choose between them, they're both beautiful. Besides, the master (Carl) has already spoken - heed his counsel!!!

When I was a kid growing up in Birmingham, England, we used to play a kind of arm wrestling game called 'peanuts'.
The idea was that when you'd had enough, you yelled 'peanuts', I believe in the equivalent of saying 'uncle' here in the US.

Maybe that's a sign that you should just give in and own/carry multiple peanuts :D

I love the romantic idea of being a one knife man like my father was. But lets face it; the very fact that we are here on this forum, means we're one of the afflicted. The dammed. The mutants that come out at night. The 1% of the society at large that likes knives.

Our fathers and grandfathers would never understand us, if they themselves were not one of the afflicted. Yes, it would be nice if we left behind THE KNIFE, that our son would cherish. But look at the good side, we leave behind enough knives that the family won't fight over it, because there's enough to go around.:D

I long gave up hope of being a one knife man. Never stood a chance of making it. But... now I'm a one pattern man. Aside from the semi-disposable Vic classic on my keyring, the peanut in my right pocket is now a constant. Someday I'm gonna vapor lock, or maybe get run over while riding my Vespa, and I'm going to leave behind some well used peanuts. The grandkids will split them up among themselves, while saying "These must have been special, they were Grandpa Carl's choice for his last pocket knives on this rock."

I don't know if I can do better than that.

Carl.

Must resist buying a Peanut... There are so many topics about Peanuts that I feel the pressure to buy it and try it:/ Chestnut bone or yellow... I must resist...

Cali resistance is futile. I was once like you. Now I have new ones, custom ones and old classic ones. Do the right thing and get one...or two...or three...

They are so small I'm afraid that I won't be pleased with one of them. And, you know, I don't need another knife ;D

i'd go for the stag and dam. the reason being that usually people don't beat the hell out of a peanut so you might as well roll in style:cool:
