pecan--how to cure

i found a buttload of pecan from a huge fallen tree. i bought some home and some of it has excellent color and fugure. im not familiar with pecan but i know its difficult to cure. how shouldn i go about curing these green pieces. i cut some intosmaller pieces. its green as heck. thank-marekz--oh ya- i covered it in parrafin

Pecan is in the hickory family and is not hard to dry. To dry the pcs you have you would be better off splitting those logs right down the middle. Leave the ends waxed and set in a dry but shady place to dry. You may end up with a few splits but you will get many scales out of those logs. Pecan, like hickory, is a stringy coarse wood. It steams and bends extremely well. Remember , though, it is coarse..unlike ironwood or many of the exotics so often used for knife scales.
 
Some of the best looking wood I've got came from a pecan root ball that Katrina blowed over. It was destined for the fire place but went to WSSI instead.

Even stabilized it's an open grain, but I fill with tung oil or supper glue depending on the piece. Don't buff untill after sealing as the open pores can trap compound.
