Is peel ply carbon fiber available for purchase? I've seen several patterns or weaves when it comes to carbon fiber, but have never seen peel ply carbon fiber for sale anywhere. An example of the type of carbon fiber I'm talking about is found on the CF/ZDP-189 Spyderco Stretch.

I believe Spyderco does that in house. It's peelply G10 with a thin carbon fiber layer over the textured side of the G10. They do something similar to get the digicam pattern in their G10. Previous japanese made models with CF used solid CF. I remember asking Sal before and he said that G10 on the japanese knives is a challenge because it needs to be machined in the US and shipped there. So this is probably the same stuff they use on their US models. Not exactly sure of their method, but you might be able to make your own with some kind of a dip.

The peel ply carbon fiber spyderco uses is solid carbon fiber.

The Taiwanese models are laminated G10/carbon fiber. I'm sure there's a term for that particular texture but let's call that one basket weave. I'm referring to the scales like on the sage 1 or Bradley. The scales on the Manix 2 XL are solid carbon fiber and peel ply texture.

Peel ply is very close to your typical Spyderco G10 texture.

Is peel ply different from what Sprderco uses to build their Domino models?

It's a CF/G10 type of laminate used on the Dice, Domino, Sage, Bradley folder, Lum, Dragonfly, R2, etc. (Taiwan & Japanese both).

Really? The Taiwan made models I've seen and the newer S90v XL is G10/CF laminate and it's called peel ply carbon fiber.

The Golden Colorado made Spyderco knives used solid CF, it is textured in a similar way to regular textured G10. A top layer is applied during the manufacturing process (for the laminate, not the knife). When it is finished, it is "peeled off" like a sticker, hence the term "peel ply". Same goes for G10. The Taiwan models you've seen have a larger woven pattern top layer of CF, the bottom is something else.

Indeed it is. In fact, I was a bit disappointed when I got my Manix 2 XL with peel ply CF because it was so much like G10.

With some epoxy resin and the right peel-ply release fabric, you can apply the finish to whatever you want, no?
