Pelican case vs. Otterbox?

Keep in mind that the soft plastic waterproof cases, if they use a ziploc closure, can break when its cold. We were in the field doing land nav a month or two ago and my buddy ruined his map in a stream crossing because the corner of the ziploc case had ripped because it was cold out (like 28*).

But im probably gonna get a Pelican AND a Otterbox just to see which is best myself. Ill just use them for something else.

Also look into Seahorse/Serpac cases if you're just experimenting. They don't feel as heavy and maybe not fancy as some Storm or Pelican cases, but they are water tight, very durable, and less expensive. Also Made in the USA.

Some stores advertise the Seahorse brand and some use Serpac, but they're the same darn thing, as far as I can tell.

I have never owned an Otterbox, but I can say that I trust most all of my electronics to Pelican cases, and the 1010 goes along with me everywhere.
I have never had any of them submerged, because the darn things float!

This week i just bought a Pelican 1010 and a Otter 2000 from Amazon.com, could not decide which one to buy so i bought one of each and when i received them they are pretty comparable. The Otter 2000 had better reviews on being waterproof than the pelican 1010. I bought them to put a camera and cell phone and stuff in on a vacation to Maui coming up.
