Pencil Issues...

Try Victorinox alox series (bantam or solo) one layer should be slim enough to fit in your book wallet. Blades are 56RC, should be great for pencil sharpening. I use my Spartan Lite for the task, with original factory edge it worked great, but even better after thinning it more (making the edge angle smaller).

You can get at good price and donating to good cause through Tim (Felinevet) at http://felinevet.sosakonline.com.

SAK makes a small pen knife with a clip that is dead thin, about 3/16" without the clip. It's got a blade, file and scissors, and the clip will help keep it in your wallet. I've used it as an unobtrusive money clip as well. I wonder if the file would fine tune your pencil points?

Queen Peanut in D2 steel.

It's about the same thickness as a pencil.

I agree, this is the way to go. You have a nice selection of handle materials, a nice selection of slipjoints, and D2 steel! People whittle with knives like this, why not use one to sharpen your pencil? You could even get a Queen whittler with D2.

knifecenter.com has a pretty good selection.

I've been using my spyderco dragonfly without too many strange looks. The stainless steel one with the clip removed (or not) would be a fair option. What's nice about the dragonfly is that the integrated finger choil gives you a full sized grip on the knife. It doesn't feel like a mini knife.

I'll third the suggestion for a Queen Peanut. A Case Yellow Handle Pen in Chrome Vanadium (32087 CV), or a USA-made Schrade 104OT Minuteman would also be a good choice. These are pen knives, slim and well-suited to the task.

Oh, look at that sweet handle conform to your hand

I really like the Wenger Patriot to sharpen pencils, lovely little penknife.
The Victorinox alox Bantam II might be a good choice as well.

+1 on th A.G Russell ultimate pen knife. It's super small and super thin, not to mention the VG-10 will keep up a good edge profile. The only thing is the matter of control--you'll only be able to use 2-3 fingers the handle's so small, but it should get the job done.

I have one with me and just sharpened a pencil with it. After I wrote it at first I almost thought it would be too small. Its good though.

AG has also posted on the boards that they are working on a slightly larger lockback version...

If your looking for something to put in one of those little wallet/notepads though, I think this is the ticket. Titanium handle and VG-10 for $20? How much more could you ask for.

Spyderco Ladybug that fits on key chain/ring. It even comes with a little light so you can sharpen in the dark!!!

For $.25 at any bookstore you can find this little plastic thing shaped like a cube that has a hole in one end. You jam your pencil in, give it some twirls, some wood shavings come flying out, and voila! you have a sharpened pencil.

I think the A G Russell Ultimate Penknife is coming out as the front runner here - VG10 and ti handles for twenty bucks... that's absurdly good value. I love the look of the Benchmite too, but until I write that bestseller, the inexpensive option takes it every time. It looks like it'll fit nicely in the notebook wallet as well.

Wish I got this much help on every purchase I made - thanks very much, everyone, for your input.

Are there any plans to release this with an axis lock? :D

The AG Russell UPK is indeed a great value. Be warned though, it is smaller than you probably expect.

Then the price would be $.50 instead of $.25 (royalty fees you know). If it had a battery it could be a "button lock".

Foilist, I carry the 4x6 but you can also get a 3x5. They are practically indestructible. Pockets for pens outside and pockets inside for a notepad and papers (schedules, coupons, business cards).

Black, Olive, or Camo. First thing I did was remove the velcro tab. :)

NOTESAF™ 4X6 TACTICAL TABLET HOLDER WITH PAPER TABLET
Originally developed to fill an Army requirement calling for a convenient tablet holder that could hold accessories and fit in a BDU cargo pocket. Soldiers use these by the thousands. Fits in hip or cargo pockets and holds a variety of tools - pens, pencils, mini-calculator, cards, etc. Hook and loop closure keeps notes and contents secure. Washable nylon packcloth construction. Ruled paper tablet included.

NOTESAF™ 3X5 TACTICAL TABLET HOLDER WITH PAPER TABLET

Thanks for the tip. Sorry for the hijack.
