Just curious if anyone ever buys replica knives, by that I mean like knives from movies and such. Like Rambo? Does anyone own a rambo replica knife? I have a Sweeney Todd replica razor. Just curious if anyone else likes this kind of stuff

hah i have a sweeny todd razor too, thats really the knife from a movie ive ever thought about buying...

I use to have a Rambo III back in the late 80's. Turned out to be a real pice of well, "junk". I tried to cut down a 1" sapling, but the spaling won. It turned the knife into a flail (the pommel nut came loose, and in turn so did the blade).

I figure most replica knives and stuff wouldn't be great. The latest smokey mountain knife works catalog I got had 2 Rambo knives in it both over 100 dollars so they may be decent. My Sweeney Todd razor only cost 10 dollars. They have nicer ones that actually look identicle from the movie that are around 30 dollars. I think it would be awesome to have one of the razors FROM the movie Johnny Depp actually made a request to have them switch blade

Ask yourself the same question and substitute something else for knives. Would you buy a replica Rolex?

that's an incorrect way to frame the question. You wouldn't want a replica(clone) rolex because you can buy a real rolex from a dealer. In this instance, a "replica" is certain to be lower quality than the original.

As far as I know, there is no dealer that sells THE knife Stallone used in Rambo series because they are all prop knives and are either destroyed while shooting or not for sale. All "Rambo" knives, even those made by Lile, Hibben, are "Replica"s of the movie knife, even though they are made by the original smith and is of the same quality.

having said that, if I were to buy a "replica", I would try to buy from the original smith/shop when possible. I do have a Rambo 4 knife just because I finally gave in and really wanted one. Otherwise I'd consider the "authorized" copy to be mostly only for display purposes.

I have a letter opener that is a miniature replica of a medieval sword, supposedly El Cid's. Does that count? :)

I have been tempted, but have not bit. The one that tempted me is the long dagger/short sword, Sting, from TLOTR. If they made one out of a more magical steel, perhaps A2, I would have done it.

Back when I was a teen one of the hot TV shows was, The Man from Uncle. They had great spy weapons. The star of the show was Robert Vaughn. He played Hamlet at the Pasadena Playhouse around the same time. The owner of Kingston House Cutlery around the corner from the playhouse provided a dagger as a prop and part of his costume. She gave it to me when she got it back.

In the movie version of From Russia With Love, the real Bond (Sean Connery) used an AR-7 takedown survival rifle he got from Q. In the book it was a cane gun. Anyway I did get myself and AR-7 during the 60's.

AG Russell has some miniature WWII US combat knives as "letter openers" at the moment. I am tempted to get one of the repros of the Devil's Brigade dagger.

i make rambo knives.
(( You can make them but you can't advertise them here. ))

The "R4" was my favourite blade in the franchise. I guess Stallone had to really talk Hibben into making it look rough and hastily-made... a stretch from usual Hibben works!

Don't own any replicas myself. For the most part, blades designed for movies put the emphasis on looks, and function is a non-issue. There's so many great pre-existing patterns out there, I guess I just don't feel the need to get into "movie knives".

Movie replica knives have traditionally been a huge market. United Cutlery broke new ground when they put out the Rambo replicas back in the 80s. The Rambo III knife sold something like 250,000 copies and led to LOTR and now virtually any movie with a blade in it.

They are fun and of course primarily made to be display and conversation pieces. I think it has gotten a lot of people into knife collecting. We all have to start somewhere, right?

It certainly can go a long way in getting recognition for a knifemaker. I know I would make a movie knife in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity. I think it would be cool to see one of my blades being used in a movie even though I know it would open me up to all kinds of critics.

It's like how Gil Hibben is so identified with the Rambo Knives and fantasy knives even though he had 30 years under his belt as a full time professional knifemaker before he ever made a movie knife. The same with Jimmy Lile, everything else he did as a knifemaker was forgotten after Rambo.

Thats not the right way of looking at it. Your looking at it as fake Would you buy a fake benchmade knife or somthing like that. This is a replica from a movie, a comemorative or memorabilia peice. People don't sell thing on the internet from a movie and put on the description "Fake Rambo knife."

Think before you comment.

That's exactly what he was saying. You should really be more polite to people. And work on your spelling and grammar.

To answer your question, if you are referring to movie replicas... No, I don't. Most movie replica knives/swords are made to look pretty by hanging from a wall or in the stand they come with. They are not meant to be carried or used.

He knew exactly what he was saying, hence the part you underlined.

I don't have any because there aren't any I really care for. Now, if they ever made the sak from the Saint...

you're telling a person to be polite while you're being rude.huuummmmmm????
maybe take your own advise.
