People live here...

At least we know how bad things can be and still survive, kinda. I want a nice, tall glass of the water out of that creek.

Some of us do.

I've had to live like that IN THIS COUNTRY (USA).

Did I mention it was on the outskirts of a landfill, where they got their food and water (if that is what you would call it)

I have been to near every state in this Country (minus Hawaii and Alaska) and have NEVER witnessed ANYTHING like that.......not saying it doesn't happen, just I have not seen it as a way of life....generations even live like this. Some are fortunate to escape such situations (just as you now with a computer) but these folks live lives in complete destitute devoid of any and all comforts, sleeping on dirt floors.

Never seen what in this country? People living like that?
A large number of people living like that?
Generations living like that?
I guarantee people have to live like that in this country. If you haven't seen it, you haven't looked in the right (wrong) places.
You may not see large numbers of people living like that (although there are reports of large chanty/tent cities where there used to be just "hobo camps" due to the economy), or for generations, but people do have to live like that.

The worst place I have seen in the USA can not even begin to compare to the best places in some of the area I have been overseas. One can not imagine unless you have been there. There are no soup lines, or welfare checks, or churches, but worst of all there is no opportunity. There are no complaints either - they do not know what they don't know.

After traveling to some of these areas, I have gained a stronger appreciation for what we have here and will fight to keep it if necessary!

Someone, somewhere, ALWAYS has it worse than us! Believe it!

You hit it on the head. Saw a family of 5 living in a VW Beetle in Central America. It was tireless/ windowless and sitting on the side of the road in a ditch but it was all theirs! Travel around the world and you'll see alot. In other countries you can't even go to the cities to eat out of dumpsters because it's too dangerous to go or the fact THEY HAVE NO DUMPSTERS!! Computers? Hell they can't even read or write! Better go before I say what I really want to.

During the olympics, I saw some alternative media covering stories of how Chinese people were run out of the city so that they could make it appear as if there was no poverty.

I'm not going to go all Moral and stuff too seriously on such a fine early summer evening (over here...), but really... these are the kids that make the stuff you buy on Walmart. Or if you buy a lower priced Benchmade, Spyderco, Schrade or... the list is way too long for anyone of us to sleep well tonight.

Dingy,

Thanks for the pictures. I saw these types of conditions and even worse scenarios when I was in Urumshi, and Alashankou.

And I spent an hour traveling through far worse in India yesterday.

Just like in slumdog, people sleeping on piles of garbage, and burning the garbage to cook over.

Take care of yourself over there -
