This is really starting to bug me. On every sale post I have someone will send me a message of interest and after I give them one reply or answer whatever question they had they just disappear. I find this rude and infuriating at times. Just give me a simple reply of "sorry I'm no longer interested." Is that too much to ask, rather than getting my hopes up and waiting for a day or longer to see if you're actually going to reply again? By confirming you're no longer interested at least I know to move onto whoever else may be interested in the knife.

Unfortunately not everyone is as courteous as we would like them to be. Move on, and first in line means you’ve asked for payment information. If you ask simple questions about my post you have not saved your place in line by starting a conversation about my knife.

I had a guy offer to buy my knife, but he worded it specially as so he could flake out on what I thought was a done deal the next day. I’ve learned since then that the only place holder is quick payment. Money talks and bullshit walks. Outside of that I’m very courteous to everyone whether buyer or seller, and make sure to pay and ship quickly

It's the folks that ask me to go the extra mile with more pictures and endless PMs and emails then flake that jam up my sale threads that annoy me and others that might be interested in buying my item.
Friggin tire kickers.
Happens all the time.

Bugs me too. We were, apparently, raised differently than those cretins - BUT - I now know that after I answer the question(s) I move on and don't look back. Hope doesn't sell your knife. If someone, in the meantime, asks a question or submits an offer, that guy/gal is the only person in the deal room to me.

LOW BALL OFFERS? - let those go too. I usually reply - a simple thanks but no thanks , with no regrets. Even if I need to list a knife 3 times, usually it sells at, or very near, my asking price or, at the least, to someone who has the courtesy to have a real conversation with me. Desperate guys don't get the girl and desperate knife sellers don't make the sale. Just sayin'. Have fun. :)

If they are just asking a question. That may be as far as they intended to go. I wouldn't consider that as intention to buy . It's the one that say I'll take it and disappear that I have a problem with. It leaves me in limbo and I feel an obligation to make an effort to chase them down before moving on.
Asking for lots of photo's is almost always someone who just wants to look at photo's and not buy.

I think that the best we can hope for, is that a serious buyer enters to take charge, in spite of all the curious lookers and bystanders that have to be endured.

I agree with Peter Hartwig. If you have a question or two that can be answered easily, then I say why not give them an answer? I interpret that as curiosity. I have no expectation of them getting back to me. It’s the ones who go further and want pictures, detailed descriptions, along with trying to negotiate a better price, that annoys me. And then they don’t respond...Those I consider entitled, self-absorbed morons. It’s not that difficult to respond and thank me for my time, but that they’re not interested.

It is rude. We are all in the same hobby and should treat each other with respect.

However, there is no contract of sale until a buyer offers to buy and you agree to sell. That's why "I'll take it" has no legal consequences in and of itself. The seller has the last word - accept offer or not.

Your not obligated to wait. It's not theirs and have no claim of a "hold" Just because they are communicating with you unless an agreement is reached and payment is made. If someone says they will take it set a time limit your comfortable with for payment. Personally 12-24 hours is plenty time for PayPal payments

Asking questions/expressing an interest is of course alright, as others have said.

Saying 'Ill take it!' and vanishing from view is a douchebag move.

You could avoid the latter by stating in the thread, that a firm 'Ill take it' is to be followed by immediate payment. If not, you'll move on.

Problem solved.

That being said, Im fed up with sales post with multiple caveat bullet points. Not always confidence inspiring ... to say the least.

.....ohh, and the moronic 'net to me'...and those sales posts with no pics - I mean, what the frack!!:mad::thumbsdown:

(rant over).

:cool::D

Yes questions are completely alright, and I’ll be the first to say I have no problem answering any questions sent my way. I also agree with your entire post haha.

I don’t mind the net to me folks because it’s easy to ask about including fees and postage. I find it much easier to simply add it to your sales thread from the get go..... it’s not hard to figure what your net gain will be by yourself.

No pics = hard pass. This forum is SUPER easy to post uploaded files. If it is too much to post..... email it to yourself and it allows you to choose the resolution at low medium or high.

Let me re-phrase that; the 'gift' option as opposed to 'Goods & services' is an attempt to cheat/steal from PP.

IMO it should be the rule, that one pays via G&S, when one chooses to use PP to pay for goods on BF.

But this has been debated before - AFAIK the MOD staff wont enforce that (I suspect, they have enough on their plate already), so lets stick a fork in that particular aspect of the debate and adhere to the rules that be. Those of us (myself included), who refuse to pay via the 'Gift' option and only pay via the 'Goods & Services' option can choose to do that.

I agree. How difficult is it to use imgur etc.

BUT the above is a tangent in rgds to this particular thread- back to the regular scheduled programming.

Tire kickers are really a growing problem on the exchange it seems like, I wish the would allow negative feedback for people who commit to buy then bail (and vice versa with sellers).

As far as low ball offers, I typically ignore the morons. Same goes for when I say "no trades" and get offers anyway, I've had some interesting offers in the past couple of years, literally collections of junk like used sharpening stones etc.

There used to be a guy who billed himself as a professional sharpener, for about 2 months he would send me a message to almost every sale thread I posted offering to sharpen in exchange for knives I was SELLING...think about that...

That is bizarre and hilarious  :D Not the sharpest blade in his own box you might say

Had a guy recently kicking tires and gave me a tentative I'll take it pending a video of it, before I could get the video he said he found something else on ebay. Mkay, cool. Then he sent me pics of what he did buy and asked me if I could verify that it was authentic. WTF? I did help the guy out but that was Tacky as Hell IMHO.

And I'm guilty of occasional low ball offers and have gotten more takers than people who didn't answer or answered negatively. If you are respectful in how you ask I don't have an issue with lowballs.. And I've gotten some hella deals that way.
