People Who Land Deals of Day and then Disapear

Yes, it's true. When folks call or write to Yangdu for Deals of the Day, most of you follow through and actually purchase what it is you said you wanted. Lately though, there has been a small rash of purchases that just sit there. It is very frustrating for Yangdu because second callers want the deal, have money ready to go, but can't buy because Yangdu is loyally waiting to hear from the person who called first.

If a person known (?) as 'caanddd' will please contact Yangdu about a Foxy Folly it would be appreciated.

Will the person who bought the big Ganga Ram please respond?

We know how it is. Times are hard in Nepal. People are hungry. Many knives come through getting injured in shipping, or the Sarkis or Kamis got the order wrong, or???? Pick a number. This cuts down on the already slim profit margin. I think Yangdu lost money on the Foxy Follies because of all the redos. Hey, no one's fault, it just happens. But with Shipping prices going up from Nepal, and all the new products and changes since Uncle Bill's passing, some money coming in to HI right now would really be a good thing.

God, I haven't brought up Lassie coming over the hill, and it's Christmas time too; but you get the idea.

Please, please; when you ask for a deal of the day, supply your real name with the order, and make certain you are actually then going to pay for the knife.

As always, this thread is not directed at the hopeless addicts like myself who always pay and continue to pay for the HI disease.

Good post, Munk.

Hasn't it suggested in the past (I'm thinking a couple years ago maybe), that Yangdu could offer up a dead beat special (She wouldn't call it that, of course because she is far more classy than most of us). However, she could give the deadbeats a few days or a week, then pile it all together and offer it up as a DOTD. Same prices as she had posted. I for one would jump at the chance to own a monster antler GRS. I think I have a little wedding cash that the Mrs forgot about hanging out at home. Anyway, Munk's right. The deadbeats need to fess up, or lose their purchases. Yangdu works hard for us. She doesn't get rich off of this. Let's keep her stresses to a minimum, please.

Good post Munk! I know there are several of us who have narrowly missed some of these great deals to someone, and who would be glad to buy the knife, and then the folks who "won" don't follow through.

I was second on a horn manjushri to a flash-in-the-pan buyer, but luckily got it because he didn't come through. I remember this used to drive Uncle Bill crazy as well.

But that begs the question: why would someone go to the trouble of tracking a DOTD, following up with an email, successfully sharking the deal, and then _not_ follow up by paying for it? Maybe they are counting on the goodwill of HI to ship before receiving payment?

Pretty sad.

Reminds me of when I was selling a couple of bicycles last year that were no longer being used. I put an ad in the paper, and this guy called, asked about the bikes, pushed hard on the price, asked a bunch of questions about condition, features, size, type of riding they would be used for, history, etc., etc., etc., then asked directions to the house, and made a firm appt. to stop by at a certain time. I drove home from work to meet him, then nothing. He never called or showed up.

A day or two later, another guy calls up and does the same thing, but asks the same questions and after a while I figure out it's the same guy! I tell him I am only available that day and to come by, and then nothing again.

Two days later he calls back again! And starts going through the same litany of questions as if he's really interested. This time I just told him to F&^* off and hung up. How pathetic is it to get your entertainment by reading the damned classifieds and pretending to want to buy something!?

Sounds like the same guy is emailing Yangdu...

I thought that the first person who supplied all four relevent data elements got it.
Name
Address
Item
Payment method

Thats right.

Then if the money doesn't arrive, the blade just sits there.

Completely support Jake's idea.

Might I respectfully suggest:

1. The current 4 bits of information stay the standard requirements to get a DOTD.
2. Winners have 7 days to get payment to Yangdu. And if a cheque's the form of payment, the knife isn't shipped 'till the cheque clears.
3. Last day of the month, the DOTD is a collection of Deadbeat Specials.

Yandu doesn't need this crap. Nor do the Kamis. And frankly, nor do we. This is not an issue of hardball business practices ... Yangdu would never (and shouldn't) go there. This is an issue of respect.

Tom.

Ahh, it's the money thing. I originally thought that she was holding knives for people who didn't give their full name or address. That, and, for some reason, I had the idea that she still sent out the knives before payment was received.

So I was wondering why the knives were sitting.

But now I remember that that has not been the case for some time.

No worries Jake, but wanted to point out that the monster (24.5") antler GRS that went out OK a couple of weeks ago was paid for in full (edit: as was its twin in Neem that bigjim snagged the next day!) I think Munk was referring to that new 22" 37 oz. GRS (the first we have seen in that size for a good while) with Evergreen handle that was offered on the 11/30 deals for $145.

If it was another knife to which he was referring I stand corrected.

I was sorely tempted on that, but have a 22" in satisal and could not justify that one, especially with Christmas fast approaching.

Thanks,

Norm

I believe that that was one of those sad situations where good, trusting people were sending knives out and sometimes being taken advantage of. There is always some evil person that will take advantage of goodness if they can.

Speaking of horn Manjushris, I got mine yesterday. Very nice.

But I'm moving tomorrow and a baby #2 is due next week, so maybe one of these days I'll have time to look at it more closely

I didn't even know Yangdu took checks.:) Why not accept credit cards or debit cards only. Then the money is immediate and a required portion of the 411 to reserve a DOTD, and no worries. I guess maybe there are still people out there without these cards?

Thanks Norm..... That GRS thing was sounding like mine.... I ALWAYS PAY with in a few mins of hearing I won the DOTD. I don't want anybody thinkin I am a dead beat.

This is one of the other down sides of this kind of thing..... It starts casting shadows on everybody.

Personally the DOTD is one of lifes little pleasures for me. If people screw this up it will piss me off.

The one guy I wish hadn't paid... :D

Maybe he was like Guy Pierce in Memento (could not form new memories) and really needed a bike but forgot the conversations as soon as he hung up each time?:D

I agree My first email has address and part of my CC card info. When I hear back from Yangdu I send the second email with the rest of the CC card info needed to pay.

I may be a newbie but have a tremendous amount of Respect for what Yangdu does for us.

People who land deals of the day and then disappear need to be dealt with as the pirates of old did with those of their kind that fell out of favor with the overall group of pirates. They were tracked down and given the black spot to let them know that their time was a comming to be removed from the group.
Put these bums on the computer black list and email them the black spot and send Munk out to notify them that they have been banned from the deals of the day forever. If Munk should elect to impose stiffer actions upon them, then so be it.

Sure, could have been. But I subscribe to the precepts of Occam's Razor, and think it is far more likely that he was just an A$$&@le loser with nothing better to do. He probably got bored pulling the wings off butterflies, so whipped out the classified for some thrills.

Takes all kinds I guess.

Norm

I send her everything at once the first time. Payment and all. I read one of UB's old posts and thought that was what was required. I'm not changing my method either. I like the responses I get from Ms. Yangdu.

"Done deal. Will ship today. Thank You, Yangdu":D :D :D :D

Now that's a good feeling.:p

I hope that there haven't been lots of these deadbeats. It kills the fun for people who really want the khukuris, and certainly is not good for HI.

Hi Monk:

Would you tell me about the deals of the day? What are they and where can I find them? How often are they offered? I'd like a Penn Kuk.

Thanks, Steve
