I've carried Punch in a "blast" pattern (testing it outside had people 20' away and off target coughing and pissed). I've carried Sabre - I only had to use it on dogs that were fighting (once) and it worked quickly and thoroughly. I'm carrying Fox now - reviews note it either as the best thing ever or totally worthless (the same seems true of all OC sprays that I searched for); and have yet to use it. I prefer a 2oz flip top can in a stream pattern (20' range). My wife prefers a small (usually colorful) keychain can with a swivel safety in a stream pattern (10' range).
Note that you can find a lot of variations: OC that dispenses in various patterns (stream, spray, cone/blast), various consistencies (liquid, gel, foam), various colors (plain orange or with dye (visible or visible under UV light)), various tops/safeties (recessed button, flip top, trigger, turn/swivel safety), and specialty formulations (grenades, backpacks, etc).
Each variant has it's own strengths and weaknesses. No formulation will work in all situations. Evaluate your specific needs and preferences.
