Perfect Knives

If anybody has read my posts before, you know that I have been through alot of knives over the last couple of years. I think that I have finally found a perfect knife. For the last couple of weeks I have carried a Lightfoot LCC that I ordered in January. This knife is everything I want in an EDC. The blade is 3 1/8" and the OAL is a bit under 7.25". In Illinois, where the law essentially allows for no blade limit as long as there is criminal intent, the size of the LCC is almost perfect, even in areas with a 3" limit, I doubt if the LCC would raise many eyebrows unless the person carrying it was doing something else to bring himself to the attention of law enforcement. The quality of this knife is flawless! The titanium bolsters are beautiful and carbon fiber is perfectly finished. The blade is sharp beyond words and I'm sure that the BG-42 will hold up just fine. The knife is tip down and the clip is dull grey with a very low profile. I cannot imagine a better knife.

In addition to my LCC, I have a couple of smaller knives that are great for office or airplane carry. These include my Spyderco Mouse, William Henry CF Lancet & Bone Kestrel, BM 770 & 330. The Mouse in particular is the most heavy duty and hand filling small knife I have ever seen. The Lancet is so light one can forget that it is the pocket and the Kestrel is the epitome of functional jewelry similar to a fine watch. The 330 is another ultra slim and light knife that will raise almost no eyebrows. Finally, the 770 is a great light knife that is deceptively large with a 2 7/8" blade.

I'm sure that I will continue to collect, I've been doing it my whole life but I honestly feel like selling a big prtion of my collection because they will mainly collect dust now that my rotation has been set. Does anybody else want to comment on their absolute favorites?

Anthony,

The LCC is a fine knife, but, don't worry your condition is entirely temporary. You will be craving another knife soon enough.

Benchmade 710HS. Falling in love with this knife all over again.

Been selling off a lot of other stuff lately.

There is a whole list of knives that I still consider essential though:

Jerry Hossom Espada Lite
Black Cloud FB4
Black Cloud 7" Sharktooth
Black Cloud Damascus Super Valerie Dagger
Mad Dog Bayou Hunter
Mad Dog 3/16 Arizona Hunter
Mad Dog 3/16 Baby Mako
David Boye Drop Point Hunter
David Boye custom Lockback
Darrel Ralph Arc Lite
Darrel Ralph ALB
Spyderco G-10 Native

Funny, what are the other 50 or so knives I own? Guess I'll sell 'em.

Never thought I would say that I've found the perfect daily carry, but I think the knife that just arrived is exactly that. Will know after another 30 days of testing, but looks like it gets the title

I'm fairly new to the knife scene (unless you count my KA-BAR), but through way too much research I think that my favorites are:
1. Microtech LCC Lightfoot (bead blast blade)
2. CRKT M16 Carbon Fiber (01F)
3. Benchmade 705BT
Subject to change, but for those who know more than me (most of you) did I pick some good ones?

I'm sure I will crave other knives but I honestly think the LCC is it for me as far as tacticals go. Any other knives I get for a while will be gents knives or maybe even multi-blades. I also find myself drawn to smaller knives also.

Anthony,
I'm just going through this myself. Found Bladeforums, bought more knives, discovered customs, ordered a couple, and don't need the rest anymore. As long as I've got my DDR CF EDC and my new Apogee, I could throw most of my production knives in the trash and never miss them. Aside from the occasional beater, the only ones I still carry are the small Sebenza, BM blue 940, and a Spyderco sts Dragonfly.
Someone posted a pic of their Lightfoot LCC on the forums not long ago (micarta scales). It was absolutely beautiful, and I've been lusting after one ever since. Looks like an awesome knife!

edit:Forgot to comment on my "absolute favorite".
Apogee, 3.9" blade, integral lock, very slim, carries like a much smaller knife, but cuts like a much larger one, the cross-hatching provides a great grip. The anodizing is gorgeous, and seems to have neutralized the sheeple factor. I've shown it to a bunch of women-from the stores I frequent, to coworkers, ladies at the barber shop, church, etc. All have exclaimed how beautiful the knife is, all have commented on how light it is. To date, not a single person has mentioned its size (overall it's bigger than my 710HS). Yeah, it's perfect

Id have to agree with you Anthony on just what a great knife the LCC is (after I replaced the old stlye clip with the new solid one

).

My story is about the same, Ive been collecting for years now and Ive finally come down to only a select few which I rotate in my daily line up.

My top 3 are
- Microtech LCC
- CR's Sebenza
- Spyderco new style Vielle (this one would be better in my opinion if it had bronze washers for the blade) Not that Ive had any problems with it BTW.

I will have on my person at all times my Sebenza with one of the other two, and I also carry a nice pocket knife, for the past year it has been my Queen S&M Stag Cannittler.

Rarely have I possessed a knife and felt "Ahhhh, perfect...", but the few that have invoked this sense of perfection are:
1. 2nd generation MT LCC/DA
2. MT/Brend CTII
3. Emerson Commander
4. Fred Perrin Custom Bali

And I expect to feel the same way about my Strider Custom Folder as soon as it arrives.

The two knives I rotate as EDC are the Benchmade 710HSSR, and the Al Mar SERE 2000.
The 710, well, I just have to agree with Steve Harvey. If there is a better user knife than this in the production category, I would like to use one. I just wish I could get that darn blade straight when closed. Not a big deal, I guess. The knife is Axis, M2 steel w/combo edge. What more could you want? Action is sweet, and lock-up is tight. It's slim, but sturdy.
The SERE 2000 is a brute. It weighs 6oz.and is all stainless guts. The fit & finish on mine, and I know this term is overused, is absolutely flawless. The lock-up is as tight as my Balisong, and will not disengage with ANY whack test. Steel is VG-10, same as the venerable Fallknivens. Clip design is superb.
And when flicked, it opens with the loudest "clack."
The two knives are very different, but both are excellent in their own ways.

Geeze...I have gone through MANY folders in the past year or so.

First it was Spydercos. Then came the CRKT line. Then I was sold on Cold Steel. Now I'm carrying a REKAT Sifu, and a Carnivour Cub, as my "perfect knives". (Dang...I wish I could afford a Sebenza...

My absolute favorite knife right now is a Microtech LCC M/A. It is my EDC. I really like everything about this knife. Great value.

For me, it's a Mayo TNT left-hand medium recurve. I've carried this every day since late February either by itself or in addition to other pieces. It has a perfect overall length (8") and is rustproof, sharp, light, ergonomic, attractive. I can't believe that it has replaced my Sebenza completely; it has also made me super selective when purchasing new folders (in fact, the last folders I've bought were additional TNTs).

Now my other goal is to find a small fixed blade that will become an every day carry. And I must say, that W.D. Pease wharncliffe fixed blade sure seems to be it.

I'm not sure I have found a perfect carry knife. I do know that the REKAT Carnivore Cub is probably the closest I have ever come to finding a "perfect EDC". I have taken sandpaper to the handle edges and polished the lock so it is really smooth. Now I'm looking at a custom knife.

I still need to research it and decide what I REALLY want in a knife, then find a maker.

Like some of you I have sold a LOT of knives in the past 6 months. A lot of these knives were sold because they simply didn't cut it as my edc. There just has to be something special that makes a knife an edc. The following three are my rotation;

-Pat Crawford Covert, fell in love with this one instantly. Ironwood handles and a satin finish with a lot of filework and I still carrry it.
-Darrel Ralph MADD MAXX, need I say more!
-Bob Dozier Buckhunter, heavy duty with a clip to boot.

Favorites have a way of changing when that new one arrives. For me new ones have arrived since these and none of them has replaced these three.

BTW a 4" MINI MAXX will be here in the next few weeks and I expect it will find its way in the daily carry routine.

I really like the LCC....well designed and carefully executed...however I would like it a LOT more if it weighed about half of what it does....to me that is its only draw back (that and the fact that I keep closing mine on my thumb!!

Tom, are you talking about the Microtech LCC? I know the custom LCC is only about 3.5 or 4oz. That is part of the reason why I like mine so much.

Sorta funny. The reason I like mine so much is their weight, on the heavy side. The Covert is the lightest at 5.6oz. The Buckhunter and MM both weigh over 6 oz. I have always equated quality with weight. I know, I know, before I get shot down I know that this is not true. I held one of your knives Tom, a small TNT, and it was awesome.

Anyone else out there go for knives on the heavy side?

Tom,

Ya can always take your drill to the scales of one of those LCC's to lighten it up.

BTW...I kind of like my folders to be on the heavy side (REKATS), so if I can't open the darn thing in time to save my hide, I can at least bonk some fool on the head with it.
