Perfect Knives

Tom, the weight of the MT LCC is part of it's charm for me. It gives me the same sense of "knifeness" that a quality 1911 .45 gives me of "gunness" (let's invent words, shall we?). The LCC just screams "Let's cut something, damnit!!"
I've read many of your posts, Tom; Don't try to tell me that knives don't talk to you too.

I'm another one who likes some heft to his knife! That may be one reason I'm not to crazy about Zytel handled knives.

I'm going through the same thing since I got my small Sebenza.

I've got about 40 knives and I'm starting to wonder what the heck I need them for?

I've been stashing them in coat pockets, tool boxes, glove boxes, fanny packs. Stuck a few in my "hunting stuff" duffel bag and I've earmarked a few others for the camper.

Gave my wife one, my son one. Thinking maybe I'll send my sister this CRKT Wasp and my dad the Timberline Discovery lock.

I've set aside a couple as "might need if I lost my Sebenza, until I can order another one".

I'd have to admit, I've got my eye on the Lightfoot LCC, several Peter Marzitelli and a Kit Karson small model 4 (3").

I think the Sebenza spoiled me.

Well, it's not as cool, beautiful, smooth, or refined as the knives mentioned so far but...
My favorite is still my Victorinox SuperTinker!
I put it in the toolbox, or the tackle-box, or the truck's dash, but it keeps ending up right back in my pocket time and time again.

yes, sorry...I didnt read your post thru (it was toooo long!!

)
so sorry i am wrong as usual....but the microtech is WAY too heavy.....makes my pants want to fall off...of course that is my fault for being too fat and always wearing shorts with elastic waistbands!!

I will say i do like it otherwise and its nice and sharp!

I have had a large Sebenza since '99. After receiving it, I too, had gotten to the point that I was just looking at a large part of my knife stash and wondering what the heck I was doing with all of them. Sell them! 3 or 4 Benchmades later and I was the proud owner of a Darrel Ralph EDC. These 2 knives do everything I demand of a folder. Just recently added a LCC to the pair. This is the knife that I would recommend to anyone looking for their first REAL knife. Yeah, I like them a little heavy as well ART

I do have a slick folder on order with Ed Caffrey (MS) which features a thin ground, 3 1/2" forged 52100 blade and I am expecting great things from this one. You just gotta love a good carbon steel folder with a temper line

I guess I haven't found perfection yet, but I've got some knives I find almost irreplaceable. My 710hs is just about perfect. The AFCK & mini might be also if I had gotten them in M2 & with an Axis lock. My 940, blue inlay Native, 350, & G-10 Harpy would likewise have to be replaced if they were lost. The Sifu is the only knife whose weight I like. And while I love my D.R. Good custom damascus finger bone friction folder, it sits in my pocket and rarely cuts anything. I'm thinking about selling off a few of my other knives because I've got my eye on a SOG Vision, Kershaw Boa, DA LCC, maybe a few Sebenzas. Ok, no, I haven't found the perfect knife and I'm still looking. What I do have are some damn good knives and the desire for more, dammit! I love this obsession!

My EDC since I picked it up last month at the Oregon knife show....

Tom Mayo "Beefy T" TNT folder....perfect clip carry in my pocket, secure, yet easy to pull out. stout, strong,sharp....LARGE, but I like em that way....sold all my sebenzas, but still buying knives

very smooth silky action...solid lock up ...ab-so-loot-lee no blade play at all....the perfect "mouse trap" for me......

I sure hope there's no "perfect knife" - because then we could only justify owning 1 blade!! I (like almost everyone else on this site) have knives I could do without, and definite keepers. I guess the keepers I actually use the most have grown on me so much that they are close to what I'd consider MY perfect knives. I wouldn't sell these for anything:

a bayonet style knife my grandfather made out of a file - would never sell it for anything!

rekat sifu - just gotta love that "barely legal" blade.

buck 110 - been on too many fishing/hunting/camping trips to get rid of.

beat up and abused spec plus marine combat - I have depended on this thing for everything at one point or another. It has been everything from a can opener and solitary kitchen knife for 2 newlyweds, to a wood chopper, to a tent stake, etc. It's beat up, but oh so dependable.

spyderco endura - cut stuff I wouldn't touch with some of my other knives.

case stockman slipjoint - carried this one as a boy, and would never sell it.

It's not a knife, but I'd have to throw in my leatherman micra - seen it's share of use and then some.

It is just amazing to me that I have several knives that I would call "expensive", but my list has a lot on it that most would consider cheapo's. I guess they just grew on me!

My LCC/MA makes it for me. I've had it for several months and still like it. And what a steal!, for the original price I can't figure out how they made money on it. Sometimes I wonder if they were just trying to raise cash at the time since I believe it was released when the bank stepped in.

I also like some heft, my LCC is 5.7, a Socom Elite is 5.5, a BM mdl45 is 5.0, DDR's EDC stainless/cf is 4.5, a large Seb is about 4.5, and a Dozier f/b Agent is 4.0. All have a feeling of strength which gives one a sense of confidence.

And I like the gun analogy re the 1911. Same is true for a ti framed S/W snubbie; easy to carry, but when it comes time to use it you'll be wishing you had something heavier.

I always keep coming back to the Benchmade 710 Axis lock. It carries well and does everything well that I expect from a folder. Plus it is cool to pull the axis knobs and watch the blade gently close by just its own weight

For an EDC, I like knives which are small and reasonably cheap. I think the following knives are almost perfect in their own way (in no particular order)

1. SAK tinker (there are 2 of them in different sizes - I like the small one). An SAK is always in my pocket since it is a lot more functional than just a single blade knife.
2. Sypderco SS Dragonfly - a very classy and functional knife
3. Camillus EDC - for the same reasons as the Dragonfly
4. Spyderco Wegner - not an EDC but fantastic for when I want a larger folder.

Will have to agree with kdarmey on one of his favorites, the new style Spyderco Viele. The longer I have this one and the more I use it the more I like it.
