Good steel + Ball Bearing LockTM + wireclip + Leaf shaped FFG + G10/equivalent or better handle material = Perfection!

Hi all,

The above equation equals the perfect folding knife for me....

Does such a knife, or something close exist? :eek:
 
Not yet... but the P'kal is close besides the blade shape. People have been begging Sal for a Caly3-P'kal hybrid so maybe you'll be in luck? So far none of the 2008 models announced use the Ball-Bearing lock.
 
When/if the Sage comes out in a BB-lock version, that will probably be exactly what you want. Might be a while though.

I was pretty happy with the D'Allara Drop Point when I first got it for the ball bearing lock, wire clip, steel and blade shape, but doggone it was just too chunky for me. Some day I'll get my perfect knife too.
 
Good to see you BigO, I'd second The Deacon's recommendation, followed up with an aftermarket FFG and G10 scales. I think that'd cover it all after that.

Isn't the Phoenix (with Ball-Bearing Lock) an upcoming model for 2008, or is it already available? Or am I just flat-out misinformed and it's actually a discontinued model?

I think if I could have my equation in two sizes, that would be awesome.

*A handy edc size like the Caly3 with ball bearing lock
&
*A tank like the Manix with ball bearing lock & wire clip for outdoor use or when size limitations isn't an issue.

I love the look of the Sage, will definitely keep an eye for the ball bearing & other lock mechanisms.
 
This is just speculation, but many people see the premature retiring of the Manix and Mini-Manix as rather odd, as the Manix and it's smaller version were both very popular.
One of the rumored reasons for its shortened lifespan is that improvements are in the works, one of which may be a Ball lock (hopefully a caged one).

In my mind this actually makes sense. If demand was high, but there were a few things holding the model back from near perfection, to cease production for a year or two while adjustments are made would increase demand for the model, and with the improvements it would gather a larger audience than ever before.

Once again, just speculation. Hopefully I'm not far from the truth.
(crossing fingers for Mini-Manix with caged Ball lock.)

umm, scratch the BB lock and wireclip and the Tenacious is somewhat of a contender :rolleyes:
