Perhaps the best traditional knife design.......EVER!!!

It sounds like you've been converted. Great decision!

The die is cast . . . no going back now! ;) :

Yes, this is a shameless attempt to influence a certain member toward the Stockman pattern. In honor of our new brother, howsabout we declare the week of November 2nd-8th as National Adopt-A-Slipjoint Week?

thx - cpr

edited to add: I need a quick tutorial on cropping - that pic came through huge. Purty, but huge.

I also really like that Dogleg Harness Jack, too. I can also understand the OP really liking & wanting a Barlow, those are great working knives, IMHO.

However, the one slippie that I've carried W/O another folder (I always have a FB with me), is a single blade Trapper at 4 1/8". It is a Menefee Back Pocket Shadow, but man, sometimes that's all the knife I need (3 3/8" ATS-34 blade).

Wow orca8589, you got some purty knives right there.. I really like the one on the top of the middle row.
Do you guys know if the Navy PX up on the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia would have slippies? I know some PX's used to sell them but I don't know if they still do, I'll be making a trip up there on Saturday with my recruiting office. Can't wait!

I do like the Barlow, it just "fits" may hand perfectly, almost feels like it was made for my hand. Now I really can't wait for payday after seeing more pictures!

Well, if you were in the mood to send ME a Stockman, I would certainly be willing to adopt it! ;)

Please restrict all begging, groveling, bowing and scraping to email and PM's. ;)

the one on the top of the middle row.

That's a John Primble / Belknap Hardware brand; the coping blade on it is broke. Whoever had it before me had the remainder of the coping blade ground down into a screwdriver, that fits our wall electrical plates around here perfectly, and also fits several of the screws on a friend's S&W M&P revolver. It came from a thrift store here for $2., and the bone scales feel like satin. :)

I haven't been on the NOB base since '86. I'd be interested to know what they carry now. When I was there it was mostly Camillus Riggers' knives w/sheepfoot blade & marlin spike; Camillus (all-stainless) 'Demo' knives; Swiss Army Knives; and Kabar-types. (IIRC, we weren't allowed to buy the big fixed blades, that required an order from a senior officer.) We could buy any folder we wanted, but I never thought to do it. :(

Well then I might just wait til' saturday so get a knife so I can check ut the px and see what they have.

I don't know what they have at NOB, but there is a Bass Pro Shop in Hampton that's only twenty minutes away and they have a great selection of Case slipjoints and plenty of others.

Just out of curiosity...who are you trying to influence? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

It would be nice to check it out but we won't be doing any detours, except maybe Hooters , it is the Navy ya know. :D

Why, Seniordep2010, of course. ;) And anyone else who'll listen. :D

The blade clip. too exagerated

I asked a saleslady at Shepherd Hills why they (Case) designed the blade like that, and she said they get that question a lot. Apparently, no one really knows for sure. Some like it, some hate it.

I'd like to cast my vote to the sodbuster as the number one traditional of all time!
