Perks of being a knife maker

Yes. Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer I definitely started knife making for the same reason. I was a knife guy, and I wanted “my perfect knife.” But the novelty of that wore off once I got used to having a version of my perfect knife.

The “novelty” of making a living bringing a little joy and convenience into the lives of others not only doesn’t wear off, it becomes more and more satisfying as I continue.

That's what I was leaning towards.
But origins matter. And a great thing about being a knife maker is getting the knife we were first after.

Although, Heck.... I've got My "perfect knife" blank on the counter, and I probably won't get to it for a year or two with all the Other people's Perfect knife that I have to do first....haha.

One of those best things/worst things kind of things...... ;)

-tangent.
Was asked what's the best thing about being married?.....my answer was. After a real big, drawn out fight, you know she'll Still be there......

I've seen this dynamic with other exceptional professionals.

An example is the guy that designed and installed my audio system. He's one of the very best and highly sought after. He spends weeks or months on a single install. It's 8-12 months just to get a shot at hiring him. He works fifteen hour days, seven days a week.

He had an older truck. Drives 1.5 hours everyday. It didn't even have a radio in it and hadn't for years. It Isn't the cost holding him back so much as the time and how important his customers are to him.

Just like with makers. It speaks to a level of commitment that just doesn't compute for most of us. Selflessness to the extreme. A truly admirable qaulity.

A maker here, real handsome fella with a cat named smokey. Was working on a few for me right around Christmas time. The day before Christmas, he finished up mine and was rushing to get a few made, last minute, for his own friends and family.

I suppose for some, the perk of being a maker is seeing others get their perfect knife.

I wanna merge my selfishness and the happy-go-lucky, making the world a better place....bla bla bla.....

I totally forgot about this till just now....
I'm in the basement, drinking a beer. Thinking about ordering more steels for my next batches, for next year and later...

Well, I remembered that my daughter said to me years ago when I told everyone that I wanted to try to make some knives....

She said "Cool, you can make me a Katana."

That's not going to entirely work out for me on my end, but I Can/Should be able to come up with something.....

This is either going to be 14C28N, or AEB-L?
Idk where my next batch is coming from yet?
If I switch from AEB_L I'll have to commit to larger quantities.

She graduates highschool next year, so I better get going!!! Ugh.

*So....Yes, putting smiles on other people's (my daughter) face is definitely the Best thing
