Perrin PPT comments

The custom solves all these except the flipper... I should have bought one before Sacha became a well known maker ;)
I've been tempted by the customs myself and for this model could live without the flipper.
Just got an Email on this Sprint and I'm tempted again.
Just a great looking knife, and the S90V just might be pushing me over the fence.

The PPT always interested me and over the years I've owned 3 and sold them off after I realized why I sold the previous.
Just too heavy and thick for what it is.
And being a flipper fan, this model somehow just screams for a tab.
Not that it needs a flipper because the hole works exceptionally well.
And titanium liners!
Lighten this baby up.
The PPT has an assuring heft, yes.

But its not the PPT, which is heavy ...

... its the others, that are light weight;):D

The above is meant tongue in cheek but has an element of truth.

The PPT only seems heavy because we have gotten so many quality light weight knives.

Try going to a store and hold a Buck 110 - the heft/weight used to be par for the course.

I'd absolutely NOT want a flipper tab on the PPT.

What an abomination, that would be.

Just IMO. To each his/her own.

I love the heft and the hand filling handle. And it doesn't need a flipper, as its the best flicker I have ever owned. Not that smooth on regular deployment but finger flick, its perfect. I think for it being a defensive knife, its done wonderfully. The hand filling handle is really so sweet. I just hate the hot spots on the blade itself. And as the OP said, the clip makes a hot spot too so I fly clipless.

I don't like flippers either (don't see the point, but he was wanting one ;) ) Removed the flipper on my Domino, but the Southard still has the tab since doing a clean removal is more difficult and it is my only flipper..

I just got the latest sprint and I love it. I got two of them, which is something I almost never do.

While we are discussing the PPT, does anyone know who Philippe Perott is? Spyderco says he is one of the designers of this knife, but I can't find any info about him. Maybe @Sal Glesser can answer this?

Look for P Perotti.

NoFair NoFair do you know what his custom PPTs go for? If they solve the issues with this already near perfect knife, might be worth it!

Not at the moment. I think his mid techs are about $300... I had an opportunity to pick up a full custom for less than that a couple of years ago, but it was a clipless lightweight (Ti and CF afaik) version and I wanted one with a clip.. I think there have been one or two on here as well, but nothing lately (not really buying at the moment, got more knives than I'll ever need...)

No question. This isn't an overly heavy knife. I'm carrying knives under 4 oz almost exclusively. Usually under 3 oz. Mostly Spydercos. As an office dweller I'm all about the sliceyness and small size/weight. Lighter weight and disappearing in the pocket have been my standard rather than an exception.

The PPT is 5.3 oz.

If one wants a knife in the same class but with slightly less weight, there is the Yo2 at 4oz

An odd looking duck but one which really comes into its own when held.

For us mere mortal non-operators, it makes for one heck of a cardboard killer

...as does the fixed alternative: Street Beat. Another great Fred Perrin design.

Big fan of the Perrin collabs and of the Yo2 for utility/cardboard slicing.

Oil and dust on the blades.

My buddy emjay got a Sacha Thiel custom officer that sort of has similarities to the PPT. Let’s see if we can coax him into posting a pic of it. He got it used for an excellent price, the lucky dog!

@emjay4248 so will you grace this thread with some pics of your beautiful Thiel Officer?

Another Perotti design - Le Protecteur.
