This is my prototype Persian Fighter in 1095/Micarta. I designed the blade from my Harpoon Fighter while the handle came from my Silent Hunter but with a more rounded butt to show the Persian influence. The clip is hollow ground to near zero then sharpened while the lower edge is hollow ground to .040" then 25 degree bevels. The upper part of the tip is slightly thicker for a robust tip. The hollow grinds are near mirror while the flats are 400 grit satin. Grinding this baby was a lot of fun for sure! This is a full tang construction fighter rather than a frame handle - in order to get the guard over the handle I used Bruce Bump's file guide to shape the ricasso while leaving extra metal to fill the oversize slot flush with the face of the guard.....it ends up being a hybrid bolster affair but with a solid guard. Future versions will be only offered in 3/16" CPM 3V for Field Grade and CPM 154 with pretty wood and mirror grinds. Thank you for viewing my work and comments are appreciated.

Its beautiful.
I like everything about it but the 'harpoon'style notch in the spine of the blade.

Glad you like it - excellent feedback - I'm at a loss as what you have in mind as an alternative - any pictures or links? It's still a working design.

I REALLY like that! I don't see anything I would want changed.

"Look at those plunges!" is right.
:D

TK, are these your photos as well?
If so kudos on them as well as the striking knife.

Thanks for taking it in your stride. Especially, as I have great respect for your work.

Your subhilt Battlefield Bowie made me sit up in my chair; I hunt hogs with a knife only (well, there are dogs present that do all the hard work) and have been debating back and forth whether or not to get a subhilt, as that design feature has grown on me in recent years, so that Bowie caught my attention.

The Camp Master is beautiful, as is your Loveless inspired work.

The compact Bird and Trout is a lot of beauty in a small package. Ironically, Im nuts about large(-ish) Bowies, but at the same time am a huge fan of the smaller nifty looking knives like that one. Very rakish and downrigth elegant.

The Drop Point Fighter you had in Purgatory for a while is absolutely gorgerous and right up my alley. Wonderful looking knife.

As for the Persian; Im all about the Harpoon style Bowies - one of my favourite designs as is the Persian style knives for that matter. So Im not adverse to neither the harpoon style blade nor the Persian style knives - quite the contrary.

Its just when I hear Persian, I think of an austere design like those below - the spine a simple curving line, which for me is the essence of the Persian design.
I never would have thought 'harpoon' on a Persian prior to seeing your knife.

BUT

Thats purely a personal observation. The Harpoon style notch on a Persian took me by surprise. Its not what I usually would expect to see on a Persian styled knife.

But good knifemakers push the envelope and I can certainly see, that the design of your knife lends itself to the harpoon style.

Conclusion; I would be proud to own one of your fantastic knives - maybe a pig sticker, harpoon style Bowie or a compact Bowie utility knife. You make excellent blades and it a joy to see them here.

Not austere per se but the blade itself is simple, beautiful and restrained at the same time

It is interesting how people have different notions of what a word can describe. I've spent years in the middle east and frequented many of the largest outdoor bazaars in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuait, and Iraq. When I hear "Persian", I think the opposite of BladeScout. I picture knives that have so much curve as to be almost useless, adorned with intricate carved wood, flashy gems, and dangling charms and trinkets. Regardless of what the mind conjures up, I completely agree that you are making some very nice knives and I suspect, though I'm not a collector, I will probably come to own one.

I believe, I did write 'to each his own' or something to that effect.
I didnt touch upon the angle of the curve of a Persian, but spoke of the line (extremely curved or not) being uninterrupted (pay attention:D KIDDING).
That the knives posted as examples of that uninterrupted curve happens to have a somewhat restrained or gentle curve is purely by coincidence.

Ive likewise travelled in (some less than hopitable areas) in Asia and seen different kinds of knives from different regions.
Further more, the term 'Persian' is at times very broadly interpreted in Western Europe and the US.
Bringing this up did in my above post briefly crossed my mind, but I didnt want to go OT or out on a tangent to take attention away from the OPs beautiful knife, but here goes: Several designs are muddled together under the 'Persian' umbrella and other knife terms/styles - like for example the Pesh-Kabz (the originals of which are favourites of mine).
One mans 'Persian' knife is another mans 'something else.'
This goes for the Pesh-Kabz and others as well.

Should we stick strictly to the subject and not go into the angle of the spine, Ive never seen the harpoon style notch on an original Persian knife or at least not one from whence the knife style originated. Some will no doubt come along now and thats fine:)

Ive seen a notch on some Persian inspired knives pulled further back all the way to the handle though.

But that matters not an iota. Im not a purist in that sense and an amalgamation of styles picked here and there by fine knifemakers is fine with me in most cases.

Ranger Bob and BladeScout: Thanks for taking the time to share your views on this design......well stated. Taking feedback in stride and listening rather than being defensive is the fastest way to improve execution and expand s knifemaker's client base IMHO. With that said, why do I need to limit myself to one Persian Fighter?! I have another in the wings that I'll post in a day or so......smooth spine curve and a little surprise. :D A Sunday go to meeting Persian with pretty wood and mirror finish.

Harpoon Bowie:The reasons I haven't made a Harpoon version bowie are competition and construction. There are a lot of gorgeous hidden tang harpoon bowies out there made by talented makers - the competition is fierce for your dollars - I'd get buried in the pack. With that said, it hasn't been until recently that I figured out how to make a full tang model like this Persian without having to shrink the handle in order to get the double guard over it. A harpoon bowie is on its way in the next couple months. or so.. We just sold our house in WV and are moving the operation to Bucksport, Maine April 7. Lamont Coombs is just down the way and I suspect we're gonna shooting our pistols on his range.

Thanks again for the honest feedback and the kind words.

I dont think, that you should limit yourself to anything - let alone one style of 'Persian' fighter (and dont believe, that I've said as much)!

Knock yourself out - make as many as you desire.

I for one look forward to more of your fine knives:thumbup:

I'll probably end up taking one, complete with the harpoon nub (love that), in 3v with brass hardware and green micarta O.o
