Hi all,
I wanted to share a story with you, that I'm sure you will all appreciate, and at the same time personally and publicly thank David @ Great Lakes Waterjet for his services and patriotism to this great country we all share...
I was contacted earlier this month by a servicewoman headed to the sandbox to fight for our sorry butts. She wanted a knife to take with her. I agreed to make her one, even though she is due to leave in early January. I also told her that I did not feel right charging her for the knife since she is headed off to war, so that I may enjoy sitting @ home drinking beer and watching 56" football on Sundays.
I drew up a pattern that I liked, and then had a novel idea(at least I thought it was novel). I decided to call David @ Great Lakes Waterjet and see if he could watercut the letters USMC through the blade, above the bevels. David said he would love to help me and within hours of me sending him a VERY ROUGH sketch he sent me back a beautiful drawing.
When I explained who the knife was for, and that I was doing it for free, David offered his services for free if I bought the steel! The next day, even better news! He contacted Rhonda @ Crucible metals who, after hearing the story, agreed to donate the steel for free!!! Thank you Rhonda as well!
The very day the steel came in from Crucible, David cut out not one but TWO blanks, because he wasn't sure which style lettering she would like! To top it off he shipped both blanks the following morning! All this for someone he had never met and only spoken to one time over the phone!
I am including pics of my rough drawing, and the blanks that are on their way to Ohio as we speak. NOTE the thong hole was left for me to drill @ my request.
Thank you David for your great service, but mostly just for being a great person.
