So in the interest of not wasting money like I did getting a single speed motor on my grinder and then later spending even more to upgrade to variable speed am I looking at the same type of situation with the standard personalizer and personalizer plus? Is it really worth upgrading to the plus model for doing basic makers marks and marking steel grades on blades?

Get the Plus model, it works great and is worth the extra $$$ and the peace of mind that you got the right one.

Thanks for the responses, I figured as much but sometimes your inner miser needs to hear that from someone else heh.

Get the proper electrolyte from the supplier, too. It isn't as simple as the youtube guys who say to use salt water. A bottle of electrolyte will last many years of etching. You only use a tiny amount to dampen the pad ... don't make the rookie mistake of trying to etch with the pad wet with electrolyte. Too wet makes a bad etch.

What is the difference between the two? I got the regular Personalizer (not the “plus” model) years ago second hand for cheap. It’s been working okay since I’ve had it. Now I’m wondering what I’m missing out on lol.

the regular stays at 12 volts, the plus can do up to 18 volts, and also has adjustable voltage.

I will try to remember to call them Monday. Are the prices similar to the dealers. I do like buying direct.

I just have the personalizer. I thought I’d regret not getting the plus but I haven’t. I’m sure the plus is better but I’m not sure what I’m missing

You pay $274.95 for this ?????
